I've played this game a bit now. As predicted I got the shadow glitch, but the tweaks in the link I posted seem to have cleared it up.
Anyways, this seems very promising so far. It's much closer to what I'd like the STALKER experience to be. It's much more about creeping around the Zone, building the tension and getting into fairly rare firefights or getting the pants scared off of you by some mutant.
Loads better than Clear Sky so far. And they've kept the actual improvements, like the weapon upgrades, anomaly detection etc.
My only "complaint" would be that parts of the game look a bit shoddy. I'm only in the first level so far, but some of the more open areas don't look too good and lack detail. I guess a possible sacrifice in doing bigger levels, I think it's a fair trade-off. The atmosphere is still jaw-droppingly good. Finding the downed helicopter that sits in a sort of swampy area with those weird anomalies around in the water, while having the sun only barely streaming through the thick clouds is pretty goddamn awesome.

I've played the game for 3 hours. There're a lot of improvements over SoC and SC, and the side-quests were never this fun. Also, I liked the new anomalies and the cracks on the ground.
The only problem I had so far is the low resolution textures.I have to play CoP in Static Lightning in order to get the detailed textures. At least it looks much better this way than with Enhanced Lightning and poor textures.

Kinda, you now have indicators for sound and vision, aka how loud you are and how visible.
Unfortunately pulling out your weapon/reloading/packing it away/walking through a bush/steppin into water makes you always as loud as an oxherd.
The greatest problem I see is in the fact, that as soon as you are found, everyone can see you, and people can see though the wall sometimes, makes for very strange encounters. Not to speak of the damned idiotic AI, one time shooting, their whole faction hates you, even if they wouldn´t have any chance of knowing what happened, and sometimes whole missions fail because of this factor. Frustrating.
Still, this game is by far the one most comparable with SSoC, even if we now start to miss those known regions like garbage, cordon etc...

Don't know about them hating you after one time. Bandits are still chill with me after knifing one and shooting two to get my shotty back

I had this on at least two separate occasions, one, when trying to free one stalker from a bandit camp near the ex-monolith guys, which started randomly killing the bandits, an when I tried to free the lone stalker, shot him to death too. Also, there it was, that a stray bullet of mine must have hit one monolith-guy, for they suddenly rampaged around and hunted me.
The second occasion was, when I was at the sawmill in the first area, and singlehandedly was cleaning up the zombies, and 2 bandits, both green showed up, to help me. They shoot around a bit, then one dies and the other goes on the ground. Now, as I had no medkit at the time, I put him out of his misery, and when I return to base suddenly all former friendly bandits are only yellow, some even red or simply hostile... |

You mean being able to sleep outside?
Wouldn't really work with blowouts (A funny fact is that those also respawn various stuff like artifacts.) outside of perhaps limiting it to safe zones.

BTW, can anyone tell me why there are no ingame-subtitles? I mean, like for dialoge you can only hear, or those various announcements or what Degtyarev says whenever you inspect one of the crash sites. I still have no idea about so much, that it is guaranteed as of now, that I´ll have to replay this game xD.
Besides, where can I get the mod with which the traders buy 30%-weapons?

Anyone else getting serious slowdowns when looking at the sun? I've tried disabling "sun rays" and setting the "sun quality" to low but it didn't help much.

Nope, works great for me. I'm using some graphics mods from SoC, mostly textures, but also using SWO. Makes it look much better.

What are your specs? I'm beginning to think its my 8800GT aging, although Clear Sky ran pretty well even with sun rays enabled.

If the game crashes when using it, remove the scripts folder from gamedata.
The textures I'm using are really just multiple packs put together, but I do think most of it is from the Complete 2009 mod. I do have some artifacts with textures though, I believe it's cause of mipmap problems. At long ranges, the ground textures appear a bit grainy, but it's a price I'm glad to pay for much better textures overall.

How in hells name do you install this?
its 2.62 gig comes with the rus to eng translation (not latest) etc, I mount the iso, go through the motions of where to install it (checked all files with Av) and it does a brief install which i see sep from the launcher window about a dot.net fix blah blah puts shortcut on desktop linked to stalker dir (thats not there btw) pointing to dedicated server files it seems..
I dont see no other autorun or setup file to use here, confoosed... just done a full memory and sys scan incase, but the source is usually good from the poster no trouble with all other stuff so far i got off him on usenet..
txt is russian of course on readme files so i have no clue what its saying.
