LO is on of the best RPGs this gen, along with Tales of Vesperia and Eternal Sonata.

LO was fantastic.
My only criticism would have been that it didnt have that much hidden stuff.

I'm different, because I hated LO, way too slow paced, too much grind, hated reading the mini novels every couple hours (I know they weren't necessary but they were pretty much the only thing keeping the story going at any time), voice acting got on my nerves, and UE made it look awful IMO. Load times are bad if you don't install.
ToV and ES were great however.

Grind? In LO? Why would you do that? In ToV though....all good weapons (and skills) require you to grind. Alot.

I'm bummed that independent world traveling is not going to be in FFXIII. I didn't like the linear style in X.

All FF games are linear. Big World map in ff7-ff9 is just an illusion of freedom. You can't visit town B before you visit town A and even if you can, there's nothing to do there until you visit town A.
Most optional quests are also closed until you are near the end of the game.

Yup, usually there is lots of optional stuff to do after you complete JRPGs, especially FFX. I'm sick of non-linear games to be honest so bring it on!

Yes but that doesn't make it non-linear. All Jrpgs have side quests and optional bosses at the end of the game. FF10 had plenty too. The only difference is that in FF10 you choose your next destination in the menu, in FF7 you walk/ride there on chocobo

part of what made FF so great was the amazing linear story. Same with Half Life. Games can still be great + linear..

This.
If people are bitching and whining about "linearity" in a jRPG, then I recommend they should stick to PC-RPGs instead - like MMOs and other sprawling epics-that-never-end. jRPGs are about the story and the progression - and the linearity is good! ^_^

No one's bitching. I agree with you, can't care less if it's linear or not as long as the story is good.

Well, perhaps a little harsh on XII - it's not as shite as XI, but at the same time it's horrible compared to other FF titles. Easily the worst one - I happy rate FF-USA (Mystic Quest) higher.

I would say FF11 and FFX-2. FF12 was 100% linear it just didn't have very interesting story. FFX-2 is somewhat non-linear, you can choose which mission you want to do first even if they are part of the main story, some missons can be skipped, you make a choice once which affect the rest of the game etc, your enemies etc. I can't say i liked FFX-2 very much though.
And i don't agree FF11 and FF12 are bad games. Both great games imo. I liked FF12 much more than FF7 btw

The new trailer made me lol so hard, wtf kind of teaser for the game is that? Half a minute of some cookiecutter JRPG gameplay and then five minutes of bits and pieces of the story which made absolutely NO sense since it was seemingly just garbled pieces from throughout the game. Fucking hilarious, if anything it turned me off the fucking game.
And what the bloody hell, if they insist on having english voiceactors then sync the lips cause now it looks extremely terrible. Dubbed fucking gamecharacters.. gimme a break.

I wonder whether the English dub will be on the Japanese release of the PS3 version. Could be possible. Anyone know?

They probably won't, mate, citing the lack of storage space on the DVD9 medium as the cause. PS3 is the most likely candidate for dual-audio, if it happens at all.

Possible but doubtful. They have no good reason to do that, unless they want people to import, which wouldn't make much sense... Personally I'm just hoping the EU/US version will have the original Japanese dub, because I really didn't like the dubbing in the trailer. |
Well off the top of my head Valkyria Chronicles and Disagea 3 both have the Japanese tracks so it'd be pretty stingy not to. I'm just hoping it works the other way around as didn't Demon Souls contain the English translations in the Asian release?
To be honest I didn't mind the voice acting in the teaser trailer. The lip syncing was the only thing that bothered me.

There is no end to whining about voice acting in JRPGs, is there? Even when FFX is widely acknowledged as a JRPG which has some of the best English dub ever, there are still people like you saying it's "hilariously bad".
I get the impression that you don't even know what good or bad voice over is, you just bitch about it to go with the flow.
