1.) Depends on the person, I like having a CD key, but I don't keep boxes or cases and it's a pain in the ass if I lose a CD key, with steam, this can't happen.
2.) You download steam. That's it. Everything else is automatic. Downloading the patches from steam, which is automatic, or trying to find a server that's not completely flooded out... I pick automatic.
4.) Yes, some people could get it to work, and it worked for a while, but how many people are going to have access to all these individual updates? NOT the people who go on kazaa or torrents or other p2p programs, the "average users"... And by the way, ever computer person I know at my college couldn't get those releases to run, because most normal people don't even know what an nfo is.
2.) Ahh, ok I didn't realize this... Not that it's a problem for me, but it should be allowed for others to resell...
I'm not so much pro steam, as anti anti steam it's just corny. anyways, it works for me, it doesnt invade my privacy or inconvenience me (it does the opposite...) so I am happy to have it.

considering that it relates, and very strongly, to steam, I don't see what the problem with discussing steam is?
And the guy posting using the sig that he has is just inviting the comments.
You may now continue wanking.

For all the people whinging about "privacy" get a grip. Did you know your personal information goes through something like 20 computers a day. The fact that Valve may have information about your computer is completely fucking irrelevant. Why does it matter if they have info about your computer? Do you have some secret components in your computer. Is your credit card number embedded in the name of your hardware? If everyone used your flawed logic, I wouldn't hand in assignments for University because it would be an "invasion of privacy". I wouldn't pay people for stuff because it's "an invasion of privacy". I don't want people knowing that I have £2.50 to pay for a packet of cigs! In fact, I think I'll sit in a darkened room because everything I do reveals something about me and I don't want my privacy to be invaded!!
In fact, I'd imagine Valve knowing about your hardware would lead to better games which are designed to work on the majority of hardware. The only reason you bitch about it is because you hate Valve because of Gabe and the HL2 source leak and all that bullshit. Unfortunately everyone has moved on. HL2 was vastly superior to Doom 3 and everyone praised Valve. Hooray!
Steam works great. I haven't had one single problem with it. Get over your fucking prejudices and use a service which works great and a game which is fantastic to play.

I see you've given up the privacy issue.
Regarding the reliablity of Steam it has been up 99.9% of the time. I challenge you to find a single online service which has never had downtime. I doubt you will. Steam has had a very good record when it comes to uptime. Oh and the servers are up now.

Why I bought my Steam game I didn't have to do anything. I was sitting scratching my arse and the thing started unlocking immediately. Within 5 minutes I was playing. Same with the numerous updates and patches. It's amazingly convenient and easy to use. You don't have to wait at all.
Also, you don't depend on Steam to play games. There is an offline mode. If Steam is down you can still play.
The miniscule amount of people who are unlucky enough to buy the game when Steam is down are no evidence that you should pirate it. Half Life 2 is worth the money.

OMFGLOLZ - disconnect your cable modem or whatever and try to play HL2. It will work.

yeah, like i said in the other thread. Although i didn't know you have to pay 10 bucks to sell your copy just to transfer the key, that's what i call a ripoff. You already paid for the game and now you have to pay to sell it? How lame is that.
Quote: | But, arguably, you can't transfer the CD Key without paying the $10 Steam charge, because otherwise it's still registered to you at Valve, meaning you haven't truly transferred ownership to the buyer. |
