you should be able to respec on the console where you can edit your char color/name etc.

Yeah, and not to expensive. Only cost me 3000 at lvl 20 to do a full respec. Dont know if price increases for every time you do it tho.

I was bummed to find out that you can't fix up guns with different attributes. Just increasing the ammo supply is weak. Game is good, but if it had fully customizable weapons then it would be great.

Do you have to stick to the weapons you char is "good at" or can the soldier guy use a sniper rifle without any issues? I've been playing as the hunter but the sniper rifle/pistol combo isnt a huge amount of fun!
I was thinking about starting a new game with the soldier guy, mainly so I get the option to use any weapons I want. Thoughts?

I noticed that when I had used the pistol a lot with the soldier, after a while it said I had reached level 1 in pistol proficiency.
But maybe he can just use all weapons?, in which case whats the point of the hunter 
Either that or you can use every weapons with everybody and just "level" slower using it, seeing as the "weapon" of the soldier is the assault rifle?
Currently I'm using a legendary weapon/smg called Bone Shredder, it's basically a p90 with an electronic scope. |

of course it makes more sense to play with preferred weapons, especially considering that parts of the skill tree and class mods are aimed specificially aimed at them.
but then again, it doesn't really matter. i started off with a smg/repeater pistol, then used nothing but a shotgun and energy weapons for a while, then i fell in love with sniper rifles and during endgame i had a revolver as my main weapon. (playing as a siren btw)
suboptimal? definitely.
but did it give my any problems? nope.
in your case, syn: a sniper rifle/pistol combo won't win you the game anyway. especially against non-human opponents, you simply need a shotgun or something with rapid fire. but then again, it would also make sense sometimes to use a sniper rifle while your turret holds off nearby enemies when playing a soldier.
bottom line: just go with weapons that are fun and effective, don't bother too much with weapon classes.

I think everyone can use everything but some people's skills relate to specific weapon types. The hunter has a lot of skills geared towards sniper rifle / pistol damage.. I'll start a new char and see how I go as the soldier!

yep it's like that, I played as a Siren and basically used just whatever weapon was best at the time. At the end I focused on SMGs since my skill lvl was the highest on them. Also I had a skill which has a proc chance at each hit. So the more hits I make the higher my chances it procs.
The soldier really sounds like the best class with health and ammo reg. and all that cool stuff. I mean the Siren has so many useless skills, who wants more melee dmg on a game like this o.O

There is no penalty for using a weapon that's not preferred by your character, but your proficiency level will increase much faster if you're using a preferred weapon. Or so I've heard.

As of now, I am at level 26 hunter. I've use all different type of guns and my proficiency are pretty equal for all of them.. I tend to used up my ammo, so I kept switching guns. I felt that hunter are pretty good with every type of guns. I am loving shotgun because I have a 300+ shield that regenerate health under a minute. Obviously each type of guns are good at different distance so for hunter sniper rifle/shotgun are good combination. You don't have to aim with shotgun and it does high damage, but you find a good one that does like 70x12 damage.
If you hate it, ignore it.

I died like 5-6 times from start to finish, if you play your cards right you shouldn't have any problems.
The last boss I killed without taking any damage, even my shield was untouched. Took me 15-20 sec to kill him. While the way up to him was much harder imo! (last quest is lvl req 30)

Man, the game gets so much better on your second playthrough. It's nice actually finding good loot now, and the enemies are now a challenge. I wish you could have more money though, reached the maximum not far into my second playthrough.

Phasewalk does some nice dmg too ^^ and hp reg is working quite good (got a shield with 762 which is boosted trough skill and mod to 1152 or so)
