I bailed on the beta long ago..it was utter garbage. It was a total gong show and they did nothing to improve it. it ran like shit. I had one of the biggest cities but the memory leaks were ridiculous. I could play the city fine for around 40 minutes and without changing anything it would grind to a halt. They blamed my system.
If it was my system I would expect lag from the beginning.
I wasn't impressed with their earlier games and this coupled with their terrible support has soured me on any future products.

It just needs a Dual-Core optimization, then you can play a lot without any lags and memory leaks...
but they fixed some memory leaks at the trade screen in the latest patch...
____
Anyway, it looks good, gonna grab the "Lifetime Edition"

ok so this has some weird online integration and no crack so far.
I'm just wondering... do you just need a key to play it or does it have some kind of copy protection too?
Or in other words, can you grab a cheap key somewhere and download the game or do you need a legit disc in addition to a key to play?
I'm in the mood for some city building...

You need to put a key to play (that is the copy protection, there is a clone out there lacking the key). In addition, if you want to play online in the MMOCB, you will need to pay monthly fee.

thanks!
but..monthly fee?
I read something about trading online.. but what else is there exactly that warrants a monthly fee?
What kind of subscription based multiplayer could a city building game possibly have?
hmmm

Basically there is this huge Earth-like planet, and everyone's (probably 3 people ) cities are there. Trading, as far as I know, it between people (each cities has its goods and bads, and trough trading you compensate for the bads, while earning for the goods). Bullshit lol.

You should play City Life, it is by the same developer before they became cashwhores, and it is really good.

No way, it isn't anywhere near as deep as SimCity 3000/4; even City Life is much more advanced. In fact, it is pretty much compatible to Sim City Societies with a bit more depth and some MMO slapped on it that is totally unnecessary and is there just to milk people for cash.

What I hate about the Monte Cristo games is the complete lack of "sense of progression". In CitiesXL (and City Life as well), you put down a building and be done with it. It stays the same no matter what you do.
While in SC4, you place generalized zones, where people are free to develop as they see fit, but you can influence them. If you want rich sims to move in, you better provide their needs. If you want high-tech industry, you better go out there and educate your citizens and drive the dirty-industry out of the city. Unlike C(X)L, you don't need to buldoze blocks to place some new, better building, they'll do it for themselves if they need to). In MC games, you just hit a pop-limit and boom, you got yourself new buildings.
I played the beta and it was enough to convince me to reinstall SC4.
The only thing CXL does right is the amazing graphics. The streets appear deader than a roadkilled cat from last year, but the buildings appear amazing.
I would settle for a complete remake of SC4, with CXL graphics. I'd buy it instantly.

City Life was all about zoning too. It was very satisfying building a huge city with almost everyone happy, including the elites. I found this mechanic to be very realistic and quite challenging, so it was very satisfying to actually succeed in a city.

You're either an idiot or you work for the company.
It isn't even close. I was in the beta, the beta was a disaster.
Poorly optimized, most things didn't work (including a lot of the interactions stuff) and what little interaction stuff there was really didn't matter. You could build a large successful city without trading a thing. It was very easy and quick to build a city up and make tons of cash.
But it was incredibly boring because of lack of options. Its better than SimCity Societies, but not even in the same galaxy as simcity 4.
