The easiest to setup is Virtualbox, and it's free. And smaller. And doesn't bloat your PC with services and shit.

hey mates, just a quick question here... planing on moving to W7 from vista 64, reason i had 64 was for my 4gb ram that didnt read in vista 32 so is it the same with w7? 32 bit wont support 4gb ram or do i need 64bit for that? if 32bit does support 4gb its better off having that right? cause 64 but takes more memory and is less compatible with drivers.
thanks!

You need 64bit if you have 4GB of RAM and want to use all of it. Also, in this day and age, there is really no reason to go for a 32bit operating system, even for the "mere" option for slapping more RAM sticks in the future.

I am downloading Windows 7 Professional X86 via MSDNAA and it says that it will need 16gb on my harddisk. Will I be able to make a clean installation from within my HD or do I need to burn the downloaded image onto a disk?
Or is it possible to boot from an usb drive?

So... I've got to burn it? :/ Why does the installer says "you'll need 16GB of free space"?

erm basically what happens is you download this app:Downloader_for_Windows_7_Pro_RTM_x64_en.exe < x86 for you i think..then it'll start dling to a specified folder (which can be resumed)...for me the finished thing was an .ISO file...u can unpack iso's or just burn it....not sure why it says 16gb :/

exactly. If I run the installation from within XP, will I have the windows7 installation on the same partition as my XP? Infact I wanted to ditch my windows xp entirely for windows 7...

I want a fresh 7 and I don't give a shit about the old xp software so yeah, will I be able to install 7 from within xp? I don't want to upgrade...
And yeah, Vista usability was shite.

1 - yes, either from dvd or hdd, you can. it will keep the files anyway, but you can always delete from 7.

LOLQUE? Both Vista and 7 are NT.

Vista was a major overhaul instead of a "patched" XP. Yes, the internal version numbers are still based on the NT reversions but from using Win 95, 98, XP, Vista and Win7 I can tell that Vista had the most changes compared to it's precessor (and the least amount of OS-related problems).

Technically, 98->2000 was the biggest jump (or 3.1 -> NT 3.1). You wouldn't believe what a huge difference there is between 9x crap and NT.

My expirience: Win 98 crashed several times per day, Win XP crashes every now and then but Win Vista/7 crashes never (honestly), except when the nVidia driver brings it down but you can't blame MS for that
BTW: Win2000 was 5.0, not 3.1

No shit Sherlock
I was saying it all depends on when you moved to NT for it to be the biggest switch. If you moved from 98 to 2000, that was it. If you moved from 3.1 to NT 3.1, that was it. Not 2000 is 3.1

Hello Bitches. Yeah right, I'm on 7 now
And Leo: 7's UI >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Vista. I've used Vista several times on different computer and it was ALWAYS a pain in the ass. ALWAYS!

Actually it works pretty good. At first I thought "WTF is lagging like hell??" Then I realized that windows just analyzed my hardware for this rating shit. Actually I think that my 3,5 year old Notebook did pretty well

I have a question, I am considering buying Win7 Pro 64 bit from Msdn as a downloadble image ready to burn on a dvd, but I have heard some rumors that says that I will only be able to activate on 1 pc, so if I change so much as a hard drive or gfx card I won't be able to reinstall.
Is there any truth to this?

Better value for money is Technet. You get 10 licence keys per Operating System and each provided key can activate 10 different machines.
