Tons of data changes, some bug fixes and everything they found as a "bug" in final version.

Theres no protection on this game whatsoever. Correct me if im wrong here but i think thats the case here.
Im gonna wait for the release day patch before i play this, hopefully they managed to fix some minor bugs.

Game includes protection by checking continuously is the disc inside your dvd-reader. I think it should include SecuRom (or/and maybe tages).

My PC shuts down after a while. Anyone else had that problem?
It has never happened before, and it only happens while i am playing this game.

There will be some language packs soon enough guys. It's just a matter of uploading the other language files and they arent that big.

Seems like the 0-day patch is going to be minor, with some small fixes encountered in the demo. They'll patch at the end of this year and late March. According to SI, this is their most polished game yet.

Yikes, it has a fit if you've turned your PC off and come back to it, asking for the disk loads, I just kept clicking "Ignore/Continue/Try again" and it went away and the game worked

I'm curious about that too. If the game has no key verification, and the Steam installation doesn't require you to keep the disc in the drive, does that mean we get automatic updates and no-dvd features just by installing it through Steam?

I used to play these football manager games many years ago but I stopped because they became so tedious. It's micro-manage hell. You need to arrange EVERYTHING from breakfast, training and sock sizes to how many push-ups your little leaguers should do weekly. Tedious as hell. I tried switching off training on a version I did a couple of years ago but the AI failed miserably so it wasn't really an option you could ignore if you wanted to be competitive.
It's not like Alex Ferguson handles everything in Man Utd in detail himself. He's got tons of coaches, advisors, board members, accountants and whatnots to help him so he doesn't have to micro-manage everything. That's the football manager game I want. I want to set the general directions and have my plebs put it out in motion. I would of course take out the team, set a strategy, buy players and lead matches, but that's it.
The modern successful leader doesn't do everything himself. What sets a good leader from a bad/mediocre is that the good leader knows how to connect valuable co-workers/assistants to his organization. No one can be 'best' at everything so you hire specialists to fill in the gaps.
Playing modern Football manager games has become a chore for me. I guess you other football nutters love exactly what I hate though. C'est la vie I guess.

Football Manager is not what you describe. And there are enough options to offload your workload to the Assistant Manager. It'll kill all the fun (you're basically doing nothing), but the option is there.

I agree with most you say except that you are able to delegate a lot of your functions to the backroom staff. Training, scouting, tactics, friendlies, team-talks, arranging of friendlies, contract renewals, reserve teams (etc).... it could be better, and more naturalistic in the way it's implemented - but the options are there if you look.
The new editor is a class act btw - instead of distributing the full database you create small .xml files with your changes. It's going to make that really easy to add stuff to online as you can now pick and mix...

Strange, I never had to go that deep with FM. It's actually one of the 'easiest' managing titles in the micro-management department. Only the initial setup takes some time, but once the clogs are in place it all goes into automatic mode.

Steam installation requires product code, so the game does use a CD-Key to validate Steam copies.
