We'll have to see (and the 0-day patch will prove or disprove it), whether SI made the right or wrong move by only requiring the DVD to be in the drive for offline installations.
Even having the image loaded on WinMount 3 (no emulation there, trust me) fools the game, so unless the 0-day patch or any other patch to follow actually gets a better DVD check protection, anyone pirating the game won't have to worry about bad No-DVD cracks that haven't solved all the triggers or pirated-only bugs, etc.
So, unless SI includes better SecuROM or whatever on the game's executable in the 0-day patch, this year's move will make pirating the game even easier, if you don't have to worry about bugs and per-patch no-dvd cracks.
I don't know whether I hope it all works better for piracy or SI. Deep inside, I know I want SI to win this one, and force me to buy the game. It really deserves the hours I spend on each installment, which are about the sum of hours I spend in most other games in a year. Miles Jacobson revealed that they have stats saying the average FM player spends about 240 hours on it, a year. For a 30E game, that's much more h/E value than most other games, that last you 10-20 hours, and then there's no point in starting them all over again.

Devs can never win, if they use draconic DRM measures they screw the buyers yet if they don't bother they're retards. I think SI is just aiming at their old fans, most of which will probably buy the game. I for one like the minimal CP thing. Maybe I'm weird, but a game having CP or not has never influenced my buying habit.

You need to arrange EVERYTHING from breakfast, training and sock sizes to how many push-ups your little leaguers should do weekly. Tedious as hell. I tried switching off training on a version I did a couple of years ago but the AI failed miserably so it wasn't really an option you could ignore if you wanted to be competitive.
It's not like Alex Ferguson handles everything in Man Utd in detail himself. He's got tons of coaches, advisors, board members, accountants and whatnots to help him so he doesn't have to micro-manage everything. That's the football manager game I want. I want to set the general directions and have my plebs put it out in motion. I would of course take out the team, set a strategy, buy players and lead matches, but that's it.
The modern successful leader doesn't do everything himself. What sets a good leader from a bad/mediocre is that the good leader knows how to connect valuable co-workers/assistants to his organization. No one can be 'best' at everything so you hire specialists to fill in the gaps.
Playing modern Football manager games has become a chore for me. I guess you other football nutters love exactly what I hate though. C'est la vie I guess. |

I'm not sure what you're asking about, but I'm assuming you believe strategy is the same as micro-management. Kind of hard to tell really because your one-liner response doesn't include much intelligent information.
To answer my own rhetorical question and in case you didn't understand my initial post; yes strategy can be about micro-management and how well you're able to tie together knots administratively. It can however, strategy that is, also be about having an overall philosophy or strategy where you set general guidelines. Coming up with a vision or a philosophy is where the real 'brainwork' is in my opinion, not how you administratively decide to execute it, although you occasionally see moments of genius administrators there as well.
There's still a lot of important work left to deal with such as: what kind of football you want to play, how you're going to play it and with whom at which places. I want a management sim that simulates the real world of a modern manager. There's still countless of important decisions to be made.
Let me draw another analogy: There's a difference between a politician and his administration. Normatively speaking you can assume that a politician has the vision, plan and ideology and his administration simply executes their orders within given boundaries. There's the difference I'm talking about. Modern football manager games has become so complex that you're in effect both the politician and it's administration. This is what I refer to as a chore.
I've seen some of the replies stating that you can simply let the AI deal with the 'boring' parts and that is exactly what I did last time I tried a management game a couple of years ago. The problem was that the training schedule my AI coach set up was terrible, so the fitness and progression of my players was well below anything I could put together myself, and that of my AI opponents.
Maybe I'll get this one just to try it. Who knows it might be more about overall strategy if you want and less about administration if you so wish, although I doubt it.

Anyone that could reupload it to somewhere other than Rapidshare? It's gotten way too restrictive. Try FileFactory.

Why would people use anything else than FreeArc to compress their files? The patch (compressed) gets from the 70 megs provided down to 30 MBs if compressed with FreeArc rather than WinZip.
I'm uploading it on FileFactory.

Mirror for temp patch (recompressed to only 30 megs instead of the original 70 meg file):
http://www.filefactory.com/file/a073e7e/n/FM2010_v10_1_0_Patch_exe
The only change in the database (it doesn't even add a separate one, just patches the original) is Carr is in Birmingham. No additional changes made to the db. So you can use the patch with your pre-patch savegame if you couldn't care less about Carr in Birmingham.
EDIT: This game has amazed me from minute one... Even the initial set-up of your team tactics, set takers, staff and player search is assisted with recommendations from the club's staff in "Meet The Staff". That should really help with managers going for teams the first time.
