honestly, its playable with a gamepad, but its really hard to control what your entire party is doing all the time like I did in baldur's gate 2. It wont be a problem with a mouse.
Luckily, the party AI seems competent so it isn't a game ending problem or anything.

Anyone who has this game - you finding cutscenes look particularly ugly in some situations. Like sever pixelization outlining character models? |
No. not at all.
The opposite in fact. |
Really. I notice weird artifcating around NPC characters hair - it doesn't happen in all cut scenes, but it is definitely there. Also the foilage in the wilds is pretty uninspired - on the console at least. It just looks "bad". But then in other scenes it actually looks good.

Control scheme is horrible with a pad. 30 quickbar slots with unlimited quickbar pages on PC vs 3 slots and 2 pages on console with a controller. There are a lot of other downsides on console verison, you can watch this video where they highlight most of the issue on console version http://www.giantbomb.com/quick-look-dragon-age-origins-360/17-1528/
And here's a quicklook of PC version http://www.giantbomb.com/quick-look-dragon-age-origins/17-1477/

I can confirm this, I got the 360 version as I've been looking forward to the game. No regrets as it wetted my apetite for the PC version just more.
The game looks pretty awful on 360 and I'm far from a graphicsfreak, as long as things look neat and crisp. However, textures are unsightly and AA is MIA, models also look very blocky and the gear is blotchy and undetailed. Compared to some screens I've seen from PC (not the greatest look, but tidy smooth and neat, in other words fucntional) it just doesn't do the job.
I could've lived with this if the controls were up to snuff. Guess what, they aren't. I'm usually a fan of the 360 controller (I play fallout 3 both on pc and 360 with a pad) but here I'm just constantly fighting it.
-You don't have enough quickslots (I used 4 after I got my second spell): Potion/swap weaponset/Precise Strikes/mortal blow).I would've hate tot hink how a rogue or mage with more vital skills would deal.
-Ranged targetting is dodgy with quickslots
-Both of these problems couldve been partially solved with a goodworking pauseradial to queue up skills. The unpausing as soon as you select 1 skill for 1 guy however ruins this completely for me. If this would've worked (queue up skill, lb/rb to go to next guy and select one for him) I very likely wouldn't have stopped playing, as it is it's pissing me off.
Combined with the sloppy graphics I decided to wait for the PC release.I'm really really itching to play it on there after my preview on the 360. The graphics are cleaner, the controlbar immense, menu's much easier to navigate and the pausefunction just works.

I think the graphics are just fine, I don't mind the lower res textures, as long as it's not a jaggy aliased mess (which it isn't). There's plenty of other detail in the game to immerse yourself in. The characters and the dialogues are some of the best I've seen in any game, so even if the graphics aren't the best (you whores!) the game is still ripe with appropriate atmosphere, and the story unfolds at a nice pace.
As for gameplay with a controller, though there aren't enough quick slots for all those skills I think the "wheel" is intuitive enough to use with ease. The only issue I have is that when you select a skill it just kicks you out of pause mode. But so far I'm really enjoying it, and I'm comfortable with the 360 version. I may buy the PC version after my first playthrough though, if only for the mod community.

How do you manage to download passworded releases? NEVER happened to me... Do you just blindly press download button without checking out if files match scene ones etc?

LOL, first of all it is NTSC and second of all it is Region Free, meaning you can play it on any Xbox360.

Twobells you are a rogue 2 right? what skills have you specialised in and are you strong? i am a dual wielding rogue but somehow i dont seem to do a lot of damage and trapmaking isnt that effective for me. Is there any way for me to get faster attack speed or you have some tips on what skills i should upgrade.

Yes, I am not specialised (not level 7 yet) but a dual-wielding Rogue on hard difficulty.
Currently i am:
Dex: 22
Strength: 16
Cunning: 18
Constituition: 15
Willpower (for tactics) 14
TB's DA:O tactics 101:
1: I use HOLD/FREE a LOT.
As a rogue I use the best longbow I can beg, borrow or steal and put my skills in BOW, trap making, poisons as well as STEALTH. All are improved level.
2: Prior to each combat (when I believe it to be a heavy encounter) I hit HOLD PARTY go into STEALTH mode scout out my enemy and then lay traps.
I lay traps in one particular 'lane' that end near my party.
3: I return to the party and select my bow, treat it with poison and select my most crippling shot, then I choose either:
the most powerful magician
or the most powerful warrior.
4: I shoot, stunning the highest level enemy. The enemies run forward tripping over one lane after the other, the range combat party members (mages) meanwhile blast the bad guys with spells (i chose the tactics USE STUN or any movement slowing spell FIRST followed by fire)
In the meantime I change to dual wield and run behind the 'boss' and dealt him with a crippling backstab, checking all the while my parties health.
If they don't look like they are winning I hit pause and move to each char changing tactics on the fly.
My dual wield weapons are a viridian axe of +2 fire and a lightning +2 enchanted dwarven dagger.
Party members:
Morrigan
Sten/Alistair (same as)
Brutus (my puppy)
I also make sure I buff my party with the best weapons and armour I can find and make sure their approval rating is always around 65%.
I will make a note of my damage in combat and get back to you with stats.

lol twobells, i am just running up to the enemy's and stab most of 'm from behind in the heat of battle and give some leftovers of armour to my partymembers and thats about it because i dont like to much micromanagement, perhaps i've choose the wrong class for my kind of playstyle.
What effect does approval rating have? and how can i influence it. i havent heard of that and i already completed the castle mission/chapter with the undeads.
