It seems to be a decent rpg, but christ when will bioware learn how to animate characters, they look like wooden sticks walking around with no facial expression whatsoever.

*facepalm* The amount of retarded comments in this topic really makes you lose a little faith in humanity. The dialogue MAKES the game! It adds flesh to the bones which gives purpose to the story. Skip it and you ruin a big part of the story. I went to talk to everyone and they give you advice, information and also personal information.
The game really handles it so well too - I once failed at pickpocketing and saw a knight walk up to Duncan to accuse me of stealing (yes I'm a rogue) and Duncan defended me saying he would choose my word over that of a mere soldier. The game is filled with such things and it makes it a living breathing world. Compared to Jade Empire which I was playing all weekend, this is like Shakespeare versus fan fiction.

Well I skip the dialogue and let my buddies do the fihgting. It's like watching a good movie, so much more fun. Dialogues and clicking? Boooriiinnggg.

Did anyone reasonably far into the game and playing as a wariror take 'non-class' skills like herbalism and thieving skills? Does it pay off? I don't think being a jack of all trades is wise in this game. I wouldn't want to end up with a gimp warrior.

The dialgue options are just right for me. Your choices do influence the outcome a bit, but the storyline is linear. I always liked RPG's with a predefined storyline instead of RPG's which try to make sense based on your choices.
Combat on normal is just right. Not hard, but not easy either.

Dunno what people like this were expecting. . . this being the spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate and all.
Fucking sad. Well, we know why games are like they are now days for the most part.

The origin part is the intro, the first chapter if you want to put it in those terms.

Yeah it seemed much easier.
You can never have enough reviews I guess.
Quote: | the combat gets tougher to keep up with as you progress into the back half of the story.
Even the most nostalgic Infinity Engine stalwarts will find a lot to love in this story-heavy RPG.
In the end, Dragon Age: Origins feels like a real throwback to the good old days of PC role-playing epics. It also feels like exactly what you expect the makers of Baldur's Gate to come up with as a follow-up to that classic. While that means you could rightfully fault the game for not being especially innovative, it's this adherence to a classic style of gameplay that will ensure that it's welcomed by the legions of nostalgic RPG players that make up this genre's core audience. That said, this is definitely not the game for those frightened of the idea of micromanaging a game to the point where a large portion of it will be spent in a pause screen. However, as the sort of guy that has lovingly played an Infinity Engine game at least once every year for the past decade, I can think of no higher praise for this throwback than to say that Dragon Age: Origins leaves me feeling fairly confident I won't need to dig out the classics for this ritual next year. |

AI sux, the whole point of having tactical pause is to give orders to all your characters to maximize their effectiveness, i remember ive always turned AI off in bg/icwd games

I don't get any such feeling and I'm usually very sensitive to that.
The interface is a lot smoother, the locations have a lot more attention to detail, there's a lot more conversation, a stronger back story, more items to collect, etc.
The only thing I wish was better, is the music. Baldur's Gate had truly brilliant music that immediately created certain expectations. Such quality of music was very rare at the time but 10+ years later and it's still rare to actually have good music for a game. Most music is so generic that you don't even notice it's there!

I know I'm probably gonna get stoned to death for this or get shoes thrown at me but is this game playable with the xbox360 pad?
Why would I wanna do that? Because I played about 6-8 hours on the 360 already and now I'm seriously thinking about buying it (after pirating it to check how it runs mind you) or is the control scheme totally different so that I absolutely have to play with mouse and keyboard?

The interface with mouse/keyboard is superior...
Oh, and no gamepad on PC, I would wager.
