The one thing I loved about the game was the realistic way in which the costumes were changed for each level. That was awesome and I hope more developers implement it in their games. I didn't even feel like changing the costumes just coz all of the default level costumes rocked.
1 and 2 are still amazing.

I'm actually wondering, now I have completed the game and the bonus missions, why this game got such a hard time in the reviews even though the Raven Jedi Knight games got praised. This is essentially much the same but with more attention paid to the force powers and saber combos rather than implementing weapons which are completely out of character for the Jedi to use.
Game is great IMO.

Only the first Jedi Knight game, Outcast, was actually any good. Academy was rather poor, and this one is somewhere in-between. They all get severely beaten by DF2:JediKnight though.
Maybe if they'd designed it with the PC in mind it might have turned out to be a good game.

Outcast was an amazing game for the time of release, but now when I play I find the first two levels completely boring and badly designed with too much standard FPS tropes before the real saber gameplay kicks in. Not to mention the limited abilities compared to TFU and the fact that, at some point during the later levels your frequently required to use your standard FPS array of sniper lasers and rocket launchers instead of tearing it up like a true Jedi and kicking arse solely with a saber. JO will always be a good game to me, but it has been improved upon in TFU as far as I'm concerned. |
Granted, the first levels of Outcast did suck, and the game is by no means a classic. On the whole though, I do think it's better than TFU. My problem with TFU is that just about all the focus went to force powers and enviroment interaction. And those things are well done, but also get somewhat disminished by some odd design decisions( like enemies surviving ridiculous things ) and the poor console-based control scheme.
Worse, they managed to actually make sword fighting tedious and uninteresting. That was pretty much the best part of Outcast, but in TFU I ended up just trying to avoid it.

I will agree that later in the game the difficulty of the enemies gets high, but I can't agree with the controls as on my 260 pad they are second nature and I completely disagree with the saber fighting. In Outcast, you had a couple of moves you could pull off such as the reverse stab but most of your time was spent just hitting the mouse button and waving your saber around, there was practically no room for strategic saber battles. Whereas in TFU not only can you counter moves by perfect timing of blocks, but you have many combos that can be strung together with your force powers to create devastating attacks, even against the more powerful enemies.
I did get frustrated when facing the bosses and they were blocking everything I threw at them, but it's to be expected. After all, you are fighting some powerful Jedi and Sith masters.

Tested with fraps and i am on 30 fps all the time with resolution 1920 x 1200. I guess this game wont get more fps boost as many of us have 30 (and not more). The game runs smooth though.

My problem with the game is the light saber being set to stun. This would have been awesome with the Jedi Academy saber system and the focus on Force powers.

I can run the game with the rld crack, but it crashes on lvl 2. When I use the crackfix the game won't start because it needs ScumLibLEC_Retail.dll
I've checked and it's in the game's main folder so WTF? Also when I run it it says before the error that codec.exe needs elevation, what's that about? Of course I click yes but then the error msg comes up. With the orig rld crack the game just starts fine without any elevation.
I hope someon can help! |
The ScumLibLEC_Retail.dll is in the force unleashed folder

I enjoyed the game the controls were fine (360 pad to be fair) now the only thing that really pissed me off was all the loading just pressing start caused the game to load, upgrading loading and on and on and on.
The training room is located in an odd place but thats not too much of an issue.
Now some comments on the port, wtf did they do to the game when this was being reviewed a year ago the gfx looked god damn amazing with the the physics engine and what not but for some reason the pc version looks gimped, you do not get the parts where the troopers hang on for dear life or cling with each other that often it does happen but not all the time.
The actual gfx looks like they watered it down which makes me wonder why you need those kinds of specs to run the game let alone the bullshit the devs said about the pc not being good enough.

Your mind is playing tricks on you, PC version doesn't look worse. I switched my monitor between 360 and PC versions running at the same time and PC one does look better, and isn't gimped in any way. The only draw back of PC version is that you need a pretty good PC and a controller.

jesus man , i'm playing the fucking thing (keyboard+mouse) and boss camera is just fucking horrible , i can't even control the god damn character right .
i hate giving up but i'm considering it , if a game gets frustrating cause the devs were fucking lazy then fuck it .
i mean why the fuck didnt they use the regular view for a boss ?

This is one of the worst ports ever, 14.2 gb, 26 gb installed, for what!?!?, one more thing, this game requires some really good pc, but for what, graphics is bad, animations are poor etc, im not some graphics freak in games, but if the game requires some hell of a pc then the game must give something in return and not just blur and low res textures -.-

Hey guys. I have a quick question about the system requirements. I have a pretty outdated pc - P4 3,2 ghz, 2 GB ram, GF 9500GT 1GB.
I hoped I would be able to run it, since I really want to play it because of the story and the cool effects, but as I gathered from you, there are no graphic options (wtf?), therefore no way to set it on lesser details for running on my old pc.
So, I'd like to know if I have any hope at all to run it the way it is or is it a big waste of effort, time and disk space for me?
Thanks!

Sorry to disappoint but the game won't run as well as you would like it to... also the installation time will most likely annoy you and make you want to smash your pc.
1 and 2 are still amazing.

Yeah, game requires a powerful PC, but I'm lucky cause I have one. e8400, gtx260, 4gb RAM and it runs great at 1680x1050 (no crashes)
Hey, wait, that's not really powerful, it's a midrange gaming rig
Anyway, I agree that some textures are bad, but generally it is impressive, also, the controls do suck, especially in boss battles when trying to lock on the boss. Bring on the lightning spam !!!
Game's interesting enough for one playthrough, sadly I've played the psp version and know most of the story, but ...
EDIT:
In-Menu Loading = FAIL
Costume change results in loading from last checkpoint = FAIL
3 petabytes hard disk space = FAIL
annoying crackling sound at the start of each prerendered cutscene = FAIL
minifreeze when hitting with the saber = FAIL
