You dont get skill points at every lvl. Only every 2-3 lvl, depending on the class.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

you can play without DLC - its just mini expansions for the game (in this case released at the same game as main game)

Damn this game is kicking my ass. I went with a mage which is slowly turning into a healer because I need a healer to get past these 7+ enemy battles.
Spoiler: | I'm level 10 and just made it out of the castle with the possessed boy and have to find the circle of magi to get me back into the fade. I'm trying to finish up the quest board in the town with the windmill but whenever I get caught in a random fight while traveling I can't heal my templar fast enough, there's just too many enemies. I have a templar with shield and taunt, shapeshifter with heal, rogue/bard, and my mage has heal, full arcane, cone of cold, fire AOE and lightning AOE.
My gear still sucks, I'm still wearing the robe I got from the start. Either I missed some gear or I really messed up my spec.
I found a superman reference while traveling from one town to another, it was a cutscene with an old man and woman standing in front of a crater saying something like "I can't believe the boy survived the impact. We'll take him home and raise him as one of our own.".
I went down in the crater and clicked a "pile of junk" and received some metal from a meteor for crafting something... I died without saving right after that. |

I really do hate that Gametrailer site. If you watch this review you will hear the fuckers complaining about the game's length being ridiculously long in this day and age! WTF??? So now we have to complain about longer than normal game length?? It's so obvious that the site has made a pact with a console loving homosexual dwarf
|
Umm, mate... what the fuck are you smoking? I just watched that interview and it's nothing like you described :-\ You're taking what the guy said SERIOUSLY out of context. His mention of the game length? Notice how he said "unusual in this day and age" right? That was referencing the myriad shitty titles we get now that can be finished in a single sitting, often less than 6hrs worth of gameplay. I sure as hell didn't take him to mean "Oh fuck this, the game is too long. I hate this. Why can't games be SHORTER??" like you did :-\
The technical aspects you mentioned? Umm, what? I don't recall him going on and on and on about the console version EXCEPT to say that their interfaces are considerably weaker and shittier than the PC one, with more limited choices on how to play - especially with the removal of the overhead tactical camera. When he started talking about the graphics, then I'm inclined to agree with him; the world textures, overall, are REALLY poor - even for a Bioware game - while the character details are incredible for the most part, except when he touches on the gore aspect ... which a LOT of people are complaining about, but I happen to rather like.
Bottom line?

Dragon Age: Origins is a monster RPG that spares no expense and is very likely the beginning of something great. If you've been waiting for the next great PC-RPG, then jump right in ... just make sure you have sixty or so hours to spend, on the low-end!
|
I'm sorry mate, but I honest to god don't see how ANY part of that review painted either the game OR PC gaming in general, in a bad light. If anything, it was a glowing review that touched on the existence of issues that many people - PC gamers included - have already griped about. I mean, ffs, the scores?
Story: 8.8
Design: 9.4
Gameplay: 9.0
Presentation: 8.0
Overall: 9.1
That's both incredibly fair *and* objective. Yeah, the GT comments are - as always - full of braindead cocksuckers, but nobody visits GT for the "users" - but for the videos

I hope people support this game. Its worth the money and they're supporting the PC with added value like the toolset.
I'm really enjoying it. I think one of the reasons EA scaled back the protection system is to allow even ilegit customers to buy DLC.
At least they get some revenue that way. But if you like the game buy it. You'll have a hazzle free experience, all the content you want with no issues and great gameplay. And one of the most important things when supporting Bioware is that they don't just release a game and are done with it. Those that played previous Bioware games no that as long as were interested they'll keep on releasing free and paid content to the game. And usually their content is worth the money. At least its in their best interest to sell quality content or else people won't buy more and more DLC.

HALP, Brecilian forest
Spoiler: |
I've managed to slay every living thing in all the three parts of the Brecilian forest. And still the main werewolf won't show up anywhere. There are two tombs, one which only gives me a single option (which is to leave it alone) and one which wants me to disturb the ... whatever, when I touch that a revenant appears that kicks my ass with it's minions of dewm.
I've appeased the oak tree with an acorn, went to sleep at that camp and killed the wraith. And there is no werewolf to be found anywhere anymore. I'm level 10... does this werewolf only trigger at a certain level or what? Really annoying to walk around the map back and forth and around again and again, and again hoping for the furry creature to show it's paws, so I can cut them off and make them into a pendant.

Extremely good game. My only gripe is that it's very inspired by other games. It feels like the main campaign of Oblivion paired with the main campaign of The Witcher, coupled with (of course) its Forgotten Realms predecessors. Some quests are even 1 to 1 copies, as well as some dialogue and voices (one certain tree is treebeard for example).
While it feels like a copycat, it is is no cheap copy. It is as good, or in some cases better (and on the odd occasion very much better) than it's predecessors. I still would have liked to see a more off-shoot realm akin to Gothic (and the more recent Risen) - the story sometimes seem very similar to Neverwinter Nights (and it's addon Mask of the Betrayer), and I'm not convinced the 'step away from DnD' is as prominent as the developers make it out to be.
Don't get me wrong, this is most definitely one of the best RPG's I've ever played. There is no doubt about it. Everything besides what I've griped about here is GOTY-material. I've not enjoyed an RPG this much since 'The Witcher'.
What I especially enjoy is BioWare's forté, which is characters and development. In this aspect they are absolutely second to none. Simply no one can ever come close to this. This was apparent in KOTOR, it was (albeit not as much so) in MASS EFFECT, and now in DRAGON AGE. I've noticed that because of the relations between my main character and Morrigan, I without thinking have them protecting eachother in battles. Morrigan is without a doubt a character written for my taste, and Claudia Black (Farscape / Stargate) plays her masterfully - outperforming all the other cast.
I do implore anyone that enjoys this game to pay for it. So as to inspire moguls such as EA that there is more to gaming than the twentieth cloned rendition of ice hockey.
I also think fisk should be unbanned.

Just got this installed and one of the first things it tells me to do is use the scroll wheel and for some reason the game does not recognize my Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 4.0 forward or backwards scrolling of the wheel. Just wondering if anyone has encountered this or might know of a fix.
