Actually, I've been thinking alongside the same lines too .... most especially in regards to SPEED. The custom firmware locks the drive into a certain speed during play, namely 12x (older FWs were selectable, but the newest ones seem locked to 12x) --- well the REAL 360 firmware alternates its speeds, right? So surely that's got to be an indicator too.

Now, here's something i REALLY want to know. Does anyone KNOW, for certain, if the box corrupts EVERYTHING on the HDD or just the profile/saves you're currently using when you get the ban message (and log into with afterwards)?
I was thinking if i could log in with another GT (i have 5 IIRC) and see if im banned (most likely  ) but keep my main GT as uncorrupted.. |
You can check if you are banned without hdd inserted. Remove HDD, do a xbox live connection test, and if you are banned your xbox will become HDD killer which means it will corrupt saves and stuff on every single HDD you put in it.

DO NOT do a connection test.
Many reports are that you will receive a Z error message but not actually receive a ban... I did a connection test and I received the actual ban message, which flagged my console and fucked my shit up.
_SiN_, best bet, just keep it off Live!.

As of right now nope. You must bite the bullet. OR you must avoid logging on Live until after November and even December until the ban wave quiets down.
Then attempt to log on like in January or some crap.

.... actually, that's not true either. If you're going to get banned, then your machine is already flagged. MS haven't just woken up one morning in October and said "Let's look through our logs today and ban some people" - no, they've spent a YEAR* collecting information on hacked systems and piracy. If your machine has been flagged for a ban, you'll get it. Whether you login today or in four months, you're machine is flagged and you'll be banned.
*Or at least; any time over the last year - from the last ban to the current one, which is why they ban in waves and people don't wake up one sunny, June, morning and find themselves banned. It all happens October/November, and it's not like a catchers net that you can slip by simply by not logging in during those two months.

I think everyone is banned who copied the disks to their HDD. Can the banned people confirm they copied anything to their HDD?
PC: Yes. Console: No.

Might be possible. Maybe a pirated game installs a game differently then a normal one regardless if its been verified. Could be a possible flag considering HD Install is pretty new.
Goes to uninstall any game I have installed.

I can confiirm this method works too. I have two 360's - with first one i get that error, but with the other i get to repair page normally. So my banned (or flagged) one, didn't really know its banned lol, and will play all 30 arcades and install games normally. :>

There are large amounts of people that receive that error and then were able to login to Live! just fine. This method is not confirmed.

Don't know man...
I will self ban my for sure. Today one of my friends get that error in support page, then he try to log in to xbox live. He got a console banned message.

I only ever install games to the HDD, and I've yet to be banned. Well, I've installed since the feature was made available obviously. Yet a friend I know plays the exact same games as me (as we mostly play online together) and he was banned last week, but does not install games to the HDD. Now, I'm not saying you're wrong, since no one really knows how they do it, but I doubt it's that simple, nor is it the case of banning people who install games.

So maybe this method is not bullitproof, but if you try this and there are no apparent problems, hopefully it means your box is safe.

My neighbout bought a brand new 360, flash 1.6 on Lite-On, played only NHL 10. and 4 days later, he's banned.
Every single person i know that got banned are all on Lite-Ons
