Is this a bug or what, it only says Ring..... |
The memory band always does this.
Right click on in and choose inspect, you'll see the detailed information about it.

i would disagree about archers sucking - in my 2nd game i have been using leiliana as a rogue archer (didnt use her at all in the first) and with some decent gear she now holds the record for most damage dealt with a single attack - 406. that was with arrow of slaying on a yellow name mage.
playing without the hotfix, archers seem situational but not useless. while their damage output isnt as huge as the other damage dealers, they can be used for pulling over really long distances, making some fights much easier (so you dont aggro the whole group of enemies) as well as in boss fights, sitting somewhere far away and shooting away at the boss with magic arrows of the type that the boss is weak towards.
also, scattershot is pretty powerful - its an area stun from a long distance, i use it for initiating fights against disablers. usually the stun from scattershot lasts long enough for my mage to get in for a cone of cold / mind blast.

Yep they work. Better on the retail release version 1.0 it seems. So don't update if you haven't already.

None. If you used an online profile.

They save the savegames server side ???
to be sure : my documents\bioware\dragon age\characters = savegames.
you might want to backup the entire bioware directory to be sure.

Not needed. When you uninstall it will ask you if you want to keep the Savegames and the Settings. Just check this options and you are good to go.
I was playing the pirate version with no DLCs, bought the legit + the DLCs and using the old saves with zero problem (Even the special edition items worked).

Okay, probably old news, but here it is nonetheless. Here are some pitfalls you might want to avoid, if you intend to buy the game, as well as my impressions of the game itself.
-- Registering the game --
First things first: The social.bioware.com site behind the game is awful. It *could* be good, but its riddled with so many bugs, you will need a magnifying glass to spot even a tiny piece of it that is working as intended. Since you will have to use that site for registering your game, here are the issues i've been through, so you can avoid them.
- Email addresses. This is REALLY important. There are two accounts in play here. An EA account, which will be your master account, and a Bioware account, which the EA account is linked to. You have to make sure the email addresses for the two match, or you will end up with all kinds of ugly problems. This should not be a problem for those registering for the first time, but if you already got an old bioware account and intend to link that to your new one (so you can keep your screen name), then you have to make sure you change the email address on that first. Why? Because once it is linked to your EA account, you can't do that, but the email address on that will become the login for the new bioware account, screwing you up for good.
- Registration. On the second page, with the screen name selection, you might get an error about servers being unavailable. After that, you will get an error saying that your screen name is already taken. Ignore that, close the browser and try to log in with your now existing account. You will be taken to the same page, but the screen name will be locked in, and all you will have to do is pick an avatar.
- Login. do not check the remember me checkbox when you log in, as it is wrongly labelled. In reality it will cause the site to forget your login the next time you go to a different page, and you will have to log in again. If you do not tick that checkbox, it works correctly.
- CD key. If you buy the game through steam, you might be wondering where the game's CD key is. Steam only tells you one key (if any), which is the key to unlock the various DLCs coming with the game. The other key you can access by starting the game's launcher. You will see your game CD key in one of the configuration tabs there.
-- Review --
Now on to the review part:
Summarized -
The game is awesome. If you havent downloaded it yet, do it now. (better yet: buy it. Games like this are the ones that truly deserve our support) Seriously.. I'm maybe one third into the storyline (well, based on the game progress), but thats already some 40 hours (i do all side shit and explore thoroughly tho) of gameplay i clocked into it. I dont remember the last time i saw a game this deep with as much attention to detail as this one has. There are a few minor issues i have with it, but it might very well be that i only point at those in an effort to find SOME flaw in this game.
Graphics: 7/10 -
I give this a 7, because the graphics are far from being that awesome, but quite frankly they are more than adequate for a game of this type. Some minor issues i have are the blood splattering, which is a nice touch the first time, and gets awfully annoying after some 40 hours into the game when people keep having peaceful conversations about the weather while they are drenched in blood up to their ears. I mean come on.. wipe your stupid face of blood before you start to gossip with your fellow party member.. hell at least lick your lips clean of it. They overdid it i a little, but hey. Also, the blood during fighting is more like red cloud than read a real fluid.. These two would only mean a -1, but theres also the issue of polygon counts in some of the objects (mostly outdoors). I dare to say that oblivion beats this in looks, and that game is stone age by now, so yea.. graphics are not a big selling point here. They are merely enough.
Sound: --- -
Since neither my gears or my rig has the fidelity to judge sound, i will rather not score this aspect. To my ears, sound seems to be good enough. Theres some nice sound tracks in the game.. hell theres even some singing in it, but you will see that yourself. The common background chit chat, most games tend to overdo is actually sensible in this one, no more endless talks about mudcrabs. There are some nice voiced dialogues for idle banter between the various characters. So depending on who you are travelling with, you can listen to them talking with eachother.
Gameplay: 11/10 -
I might have overdone that score a little, but right now i seriously believe that this is one of the best cRPGs created in recent years, easily in legaue with classics like Baldur's Gate or Planescape Torment. So far it has a decent pace with interesting storytelling, hilarious characters you can hire and a level of detail i would never have believed if not seeing it with my own eyes. I would have a hard time if i wanted to find faults in the game. Maybe just one. Some of the talent realted features seem to be missing.. theres a progress bar for talent categories, but i think they removed the feature associated with it.
Controls: 8/10 -
The camera is sometimes a little hard to control, and the tactics system they created does not really add to the overal experience in my opinion. Well.. it would, if you wouldnt be so limited in the number of slots you can use for tactics commands. They made it so that skills can add more slots, but with the skill points being such a valuable commodity, i rather spend them on something useful than on a skill that gives me a feature that should be in the game in the frist place. Other than that, the controls are what you would expect from NWN or NWN2.
I think thats enough for now. Sorry for the wall of text, i hope there was some useful information contained in it to justify robbing your time.

Yup, it is.
The game relies heavily on tactics. It's quite impressive, but sometimes a battle that seemed impossible can be done easily if you change to the correct tactic.
Have someone with the healing magic as soon as possible. Keep the archers away from the battle (and if possible facing the back of the enemy).
If you have two attackers, position them in a form that one of them will get the enemy from behind. All classes have massive bonus when attacking from behind.
If you can, prepare with potions, elixir and traps.
The combat system is fantastic on this one. Finally a game challenging and difficult

I do agree. It's clever, funny and well written.
Alistar itself is a good surprise. He starts as you average companion, like every multiple char RPG has. But as soon as you get to know him you will see a lot of depth on his char.
Leiliana is also funny... She has kinda of a crush towards Morrigan.

Actually, the difficulty of monsters seem to be relative to yours. So a white named monster of the same type will take the same effort no matter when you encounter it, as will the yellow and orange ones.
Revenants are a b*tch no matter when you have to face them, and orange colored ones can present a seemingly impassable barrier, unless you are well prepared.
I have to agree with gomez in saying, that the combat system is quite good (apart from the tactics limitations) and yea.. i enjoy having a game where i feel like i have to fight my way through monsters for a change and not just run them over like a freakin freight train.
As for the healers.. its one way to do it. Having a decent healer, esp a spirit healer surely helps a lot, but theres other ways as well.. Personally i prefer to use crowd control spells to take the heavy hitters out of the fight while i mop up the smaller enemies and once they are gone, i can turn all my attention towards the ranked ones. The key is - as always - divide and conquer. At least thats my approach.
The beauty of this game is just this: you can ask 5 different people, and they will tell you five different stories of how they played their game. Theres just too many choices, and theres no clear right or wrong you can choose All have their pros and cons i guess.

steam tells u one key? hardly everytime i start my dragon age or via launcher it would show all 3 keys for my deluxe version, once u activate the game/and via social site you see only 2 from steam.. but to say u get shown one key if any is a bit odd.. standard version of game maybe?
u start the game as normal the keys still popup and show then u click play.. so either start shortcut u use you should still see them, if not you have a strange install..
and i dont know what u mean by configuration tabs, there is none, its just a window with ur keys in it..

In my case Steam also shows only one key. But it says that it's the Digital Deluxe Edition key.
Using it I got both the DLCs and the exclusive items.
