I had my original steam account banned back in the day when HL2 first came out. I used an allready used key when their auth servers weren't working from the load. Back then, they allowed anyone with a key that the steam client thought was valid then play the game. However, the next day when their systems were running again they banned everyone using the key. Made me mad because it was on my account with all the original HL stuff on it. I have another Steam account now with a shitload of stuff on it and if it were disabled I would without any thought bring them to court. The account is worth at least a thousand bucks, and would be quite a loss if they disabled it. Of course, thats why I no longer pirate any games which use Steam as protection. The fear of loosing my account alone is enough to keep my from pirating anymore.

You buy 100 games, valve catches you stealing one, you loose all the game you bought.. does this seem fair to you ?
Even more, to ban your gaming account just for some negative posting on their forums? This is news to me, i'm surprised you guys still use steam after knowing this is how they act.. WTH revolt !!

I've had a similar experience with Valve in the past. However this was on Steam forums when steam was rather new. I made a post that was against steam (remember the concept was both new and steam was horrible back then) basically expressing my worries and discontent with the program. In it I even predicted that they would commercialize it and start selling other developers games far before ever such plans were revealed. I was 100% civil with the post and many users responded and agreed with what I had to say and voiced other concerns.

Nice prediction, given that was the purpose with Steam.

My account was banned from both the forum and from steam itself. Lets not not forget that the person who exposed and started a uproar on the pricing issue with the Euro was also banned when he did no wrong as well. While Valve makes quality games they surely do act like a dictator that cannot stand any form of criticism even constructive.

He did do wrong, he violated several forum rules throughout the thread, which got heavily moderated because of it, he was warned several times, and kept disregarding those warnings.

So the moderators eventually banned him and kept the thread clean, never did they ban him for his opinion, or try to censor it, the only thing they were removing were inappropiate comments for the thread, i was also against the change, but had only a few posts removed because i got flamebaited by others, and i don't blame them for removing those.

The person was also allowed to banevade, though usually that is not allowed in most communities.

Something similar happend to me, but I really didn't know what I was doing, it was more of a mistake. But fair enough that my hl2 got canned, a whole other story to steal my other games. Steam is a piece of shit, I'm scared to death to lose my current steam account, for some bullshit reason. hell no I'm not playing around with more none legit keys. But it seems like quite a few people have lost their account due to crap, for instance, getting hacked two times, then steam won't help again, forum etc. Then you got the euro versus dollar issue, there is no reason why we europeans should pay a lot more for the games.

It's not about fairness, you don't pirate and show it. Even if you bought a thousand games, if you're stupid enough to let them know you pirate a game you're going to be banned.
I think the OP is a dick and he probably knows all too well what he did.

Perfectly fair.

The rules of this "game" are you get to use some games on their service. If you caught caught f'n with the service through pirating games, cheating, whatever else kind of BS is in the rules, then you lose access to the service and ALL your games.

Those rules are known in advance. We may not like them or think they're fair. But it's their service and they can do what they want with it. So if you choose to take the chance with the steam games, you take the chance of losing it all. If you don't like the rules, don't play the "game". It's that simple. You don't some sort of entitlement to play these games. And buying the game doesn't negate their rules.

Bottom line, without the bs words, is you're using their service. Their terms allow them to cut off access to the service, and therefore the games, for ANY reason. I don't like it. You don't like it. But there's not a damn thing we can do about it because we "agreed" to it by signing up for the service. Don't like it, don't use it. Choose a service with different terms. Or buy it retail.

Allright, lets treat at as a normal theft then. If you have purchased 10 cars and then steal one is it okay that they take ALL your cars? And if you want further incentive lets say they were all audi's. I think any industry besides the gaming one would have problems making money if everyone had to sign a EULA that said we can impound everything we fucking want if you do something that is against our wishes. It is not fair it is ridicilous and is only possible because they can ban you from access to their own program which coincidentally has all the keys you have bought.

And even the mindset that Valve wants to destroy your life if you pirate 1 of the 101 games you ahve bought is irrational. The punishment should fit the crime.

I understand why they do it, it just isn't very comparable to the offense in any rational way of thinking.

actually i think its hilarious... someone was dumb enough to go onto their forums and say they leeched the game and wanted cracked servers.

even if they were JOKING, a ban is richly deserved for being such a fucking moron, i mean come on!

all in all, this thread really has been great, and i hope the OP beats the living fuck out of his brother, which he really should.

If they do a check and catch you with multiple accounts from same IP, all go kaput as well.

Rule 3: Don't be a muppet and talk about pirating and cracked servers in a public/semi-public chat
Rule 4: Don't let anyone who you wouldn't trust with X number of hundreds of dollars have access to your steam account.

Farily common sense, save for your rule number 2, which is wayyyyy to much hassle. Razz

It's retarded logic if you ask me.

Someone buys 10 games and pirates other 10... Ban him and then he pirates everything... Guess when you actually have some profit...
