If a game is already developed, and they know they can make a few million $ after porting it and producing, im sure they'd do it -- what company wouldn't want to make money? Smile

Yeah, I didn't post it because I noticed that some people have become quite aggresive here. I really can't understand them, the more I see the more I want to play the game!!!

Lost interest when they went from free roaming to linear.. A free roaming horror game would've been really cool and totally unique,

stories often need to be told in a certain progression and i d rather have a compelling story than free roaming. If a game manages to do both with great quality than i m also a fan. But lets first see if it comes out on pc or not Very Happy

edit: i just googled a bit. And wikipedia says that the windows version has been "shelved indefinitly". Do they really think pc gamers are going to buy an xbox for this? I d rather buy a ps3 and switch to linux - leaving ms behind on the desktop -, if they really think they want to buttfuck us pc gamers that hard.

I think story is overrated in games, if i want story i read books or watch movies which handles story much better, its just a much better medium for that. In games i prefer when the story is what i do in the game and not some boring scripted events that plays out the same for everyone, that's what movies and books are for.

Games should take advantage of what makes it unique to books and movies instead of trying to be linear and movie-like, imo.

to be honest, i find that pretty dumb. games are the BEST medium for stories when used to the fullest extent, because it puts the player INTO the story where they can personally experience and drive it, as opposed to just being 'told' it.

not saying all games need great stories... its definately a great medium for dumb fun, but games definately are a brilliant medium for telling stories.

No, they most likely hope that gamers that own a PC and an Xbox 360 will buy the console version instead of pirating on the PC.

I'm sure YOU could, but not every casual console gamer can or rather will (for example they might be afraid of MS banning their consoles: http://news.cnet.com/8301-13772_3-10395265-52.html something they don't have to be afraid of with pirating a PC game)

If you dont feel like you're a part of the story and that you're IN the world the book describes its not a good book or you have zero imagination, or both.

Movies has real actors so games can never compete with that.. Books are just way better for telling a long, deep story + they have real writers and not some big headeded game dev that thinks he can write Razz

Games with as much text / voices won't have a good balance between actual gameplay and reading / listening to NPC's, so most/all games arent deep / involving enough story wise. Games has the totally unique opportunity to let the player himself create the story depending on what he/she does in the world, a missed opportunity for way too many games. Developers far too often forgets what the word game really stands for.

Most games have thin storylines, that are excuses for shooting stuff so I don't agree with you.

i love a lot of games for their gameplay AND i love alot of games for the compelling story telling. If a game manages to do both, you have a classic on your hand. And dont forget that we are talking about the people who made Max Payne 1&2 here, where story and gameplay were both awesome (and also quite linear).

point is, an interactive medium, by definition, will draw you into the story far more than any other medium, if its done right. and books arent necessarily the best format for telling the story... fact is, its all down to the storyteller and how well they use their medium.

Point is, most games arent interactive enough, aiming and shooting at everything that moves isnt very interactive in my book. I'm a huge Bethesda (TES series, FO) and Sims fan, they really understand the game medium well.

...and Personally i dont think anything beats books + imagination if i want a good story. One of the reasons you always end up disapointed when you see a movie based on a book that you've read, the imagination beats any cut scene or movie ever made because it plays out just the way you want it.

the story is down to the writer - the creator, it has nothing to do with the medium. if storytellers are crap at using the gaming medium, thats because they suck, not because games arent great platforms for telling stories.

...and imagination... sure.. but the imagination is still based on how the storyteller creates the world.. how is that any different from how a game is designed?

You always end up dissapointed by movies adapted from games too, and that shouldn't happen if as you say movies are a better medium than games to present a story.

I thought it would be rather obvious that the writer plays a huge role, i even thought it was so obvious that i didnt need to write that Rolling Eyes

But you're very wrong, the medium also plays a role in many different ways, for a book its obvious that you have to spend everything on story/dialogue etc to sell it, with a game it's not at all like that. No one is even expecting book quality story in games because, so far, those games are so rare that most people dont know they exist, so there's no competetion really, the competition is usualy graphics.

I thought Ultima7 I / II had a really good story, its one of those rare games i never really forget, funny enough, that game is free roaming.

http://www.fudzilla.com/content/view/16431/1/

Some have suggested that the PC version was canceled, but according to our sources Remedy still has plans to finish the PC version once the Xbox 360 version is released. In addition, our sources are suggesting that the PC version will be updated to take advantage of DirectX 11 support. There is no additional word on the expected release date for the PC version, but our sources suggest that it will follow at some point later in 2010.

Note that fudzilla's articles sometimes are complete fabrications (other times they're pretty accurate though based on legit "insider" information)
