I am looking forward to this game. Having more open environments will be pretty sweet. The only real open one in the the first one was still too constrained for my taste. There was still a lot of artificial barriers to where you could and could not go.

Basically this is the only game made by polish studio that I'm proud of.

Remember how sceptic I was at first, when I heard that the Witcher would be digitalized, but I also remember how fucking amazed I was when I finished the first act. The game was and still is wonderful in almost every aspect. I'm even more hyped to see that the studio is going for more complex fighting system, and physx looks awesome as well. Just hope they won't mix it solely for nvidia, like the others do, I'm planning on buying an amd gpu soon ;/.

The only thing that scares me is the performance. The Witcher had it's issues at times (Acts 3+ if I remember correctly) and the presentation shows a goddamn slideshow at some point. Truth to be told, it still alpha... Anyways, waiting impatiently for it to be released. Hopefully Xmas 2010?

It uses havok, so no physx nvidia exclusive.

I also fell in love with the game with the conclusion of act 1 Smile. The way things were neatly wrapped up in the end, from the pieces you could gather in the whole village and drama of the moment just dragged my jaw to the ground.

New info:

- Witcher 2 will be running on a completely new engine, developed by CD Projekt themselves (the name of the engine will be known after official announcement of the game)
- The PC is a lead platform, but there are plans to release the game on consoles
- There are 50 people from the original team working on the sequel
- The voiceovers in the leaked footage were done by CD Projekt RED team and are totally not final
- The game is in early stage of development, and you shouldn't expect any news "in the nearest time"

Source:

http://www.gry-online.pl/S018.asp?id=547 (there is English version available)

More info will be coming later today or tomorrow morning.

New engine can be good, providing it won't be new and therefore full of bugs like Gothic 3, Aurora engine was a bit cramped for my taste.

Yeah I couldn't believe what they have done, beautiful effects, OPEN SPACES, not just narrow corridors, high res. textures. I could swear that they have tweaked that engine further, but this news that it is completely new... hmm... but i suppose they use tools from W1, they wouldn't have that much of the game so far... it looks good even for alpha.

I was always stunned that it was the old Neverwinter Nights engine. What CD Projekt did with that engine was incredible!

More info:

CD-Action: Well, now the milk has spilled. Footage of Witcher 2 is available all over the net. Was it really published without your consent or was it a "controlled leak"? Is it hard to find a publisher for Witcher 2?

Michał Kiciński, CD Projekt RED CEO: The leak was a side effect of our business talk, it was not controlled at all, we were looking for a publisher. There are a lot of people engaged in the process, we invited different people from all other the world. We knew, however, that with that many people having a video it will leak eventually, since they are not guarded as much as the playable version (that are secured on CD Projekt RED's servers)

Finding publisher is a lot easier now after the release of first Witcher. Nevertheless because of our requirements and the difficulty of the whole process, it's not an easy thing and the talk with different publishers will last for a while. We would really like a good agreement so that our next game gets properly released all over the world.

CD-Action: I know you can't talk about the game yet, but could you at least tell us in a few sentences how different will Witcher 2 be compared to the original?

MK: I can't talk about it, I'm sorry. The only things I could tell you were already mentioned in Q&A with our team.

CD-Action: Regarding the movie that came up on YouTube- what will be fixed in the retail version?

MK: Again, I think it's best to quote our FAQ. The video does not show final quality of the game at all. In one word- Witcher 2 will have the same values that made Witcher great, only our ideas will be even more developed.

CD-Action: The leaked movie shook some things up. Are you happy about how it is commented on the Internet?

MK: It's great that so many people are watching it (at the moment there are over 400,000 views). We also are very glad because of the enthusiastic comments. The main problem with the video is that the material wasn't prepared for public presentation. There was no info regarding the voice overs (done by our employees over in development team). Also, the movie didn't concentrate on the game, but rather the little changes we're introducing. Not only that, the changes shown were very little of what we already have, and most of it is understandable only for publishers. It is not that good for fans of the game, who would like to know how we improved the storytelling and non-linearity.

CD-Action: What now? Did the presentation on YT change anything regarding the marketing of Witcher 2?

MK: It changes nothing really. We're getting ready for official announcement, then we will release a proper trailer and lots of new material about the game

Condition the entire conference 1C-SoftKlab - quite the ordeal. After an excellent story about Rig 3 and a rather interesting presentations Napoleon: TW, AvP and Bayonetta, began a half-hour story of Tekken 6 (the hall was clear that no one is interested), and after him - the presentation of Avatar, in which the animator (!) game took place the same level, as demonstrated on consoles just around the corner with commentaries in the style of SC Many did not survive, left the presentation, leaving only the most persistent ... The latter, which showed at the conference was ... Witcher 2! As of 1 300 000 copies sold Witcher more than 450 000 were in Russia, the release of our country, developers have paid special attention. CD Project RED cooperates with 1C directly, because in Europe, the publisher has not yet been determined. But Russia is well known, even the release date - the end of next year! Because of The Witcher 2 next Igromir moved in October to help the promotion of the project. And it was Russia's gamers and the press first in the world could see the gameplay of the sequel.

. Simulation of urban life and battle with the boss. In the scene of urban life have focused on two things. The first - Geralt learned to move not only horizontally but also vertically. Assassin's Creed not expect us to wait acrobatics level Resident Evil 5 - The Witcher can now move through the obstacles and climb stairs. And the second - the surrounding environment became much more lively and detailed. There are no citizens of the daily routine, they have only the priorities, following which they conduct their everyday lives. They eat, sleep, work, communicate with each other ... And so it was all convincing, we can go to every house and personally look at this (of course, if we are without notice). As the developers promise, we will be able to visit any building, met us on the road.

And the second scene - the battle with the boss. We showed great Cthulhu (this is not a metaphor, really big Cthulhu land!), Who sat at the foot of the cliff and tried to score Geralt its tentacles. QTE, which has already been said in the first clip, helped to turn aside from the tentacles. Under spoiler - details of the battle with a boss who does not want to spoil the impression of the game - do not read.
Dodging the tentacles, chosen for their base and chop. Attempt to cut off can be both successful and unsuccessful (in the version shown by all the attempts were successful). Lost a tentacle, monster beat remaining on the rock, and then renewed the attack. Having lost a few tentacles, Cthulhu hit the rock so that there was rather big piece of rock hang. Putting its mark, a stone fell on the monster and crushed him. . Then Geralt famously jumped on the creature and threw it into the throat of dynamite. Happy End.
After the screening question in the hall was one - is whether the console version? The answer is - we want it to do, but do not yet know.

My concern with them building their own engine is if they end up spending less time on game content and more time on engine features. Ugh.

The movie, while bad quality, looks fantastic. There are some issues still, as can be seen (colision, for example), but since the game is a year from release at best, i believe they can be corrected.

If they don't go ruining the mood and style of the game (and it doesn't seem they plan to), instead just enriching what was good in the first one, this may be a masterpiece.

I still can't get over the fact that he has a ponytail. Seriously, he NEVER wore a ponytail in the books, he look so retarded right now. :/ Sure, it's nitpicking but it's so annoying for me!

I'll buy the game either way, but the first mod I'm going to download is the one that changes his hair to a default (ie 1st Witcher) one.

There was a CD-Projekt conference in Poland and it ended just 2 hours ago. Main points:

- THEY(shooter from CDP) is now at a stall, all menpower are brought to develop Witcher 2
- CDPs ambition for Witcher 2 is to receive 90% average ratings
- The game WILL appear on consoles
- First official previews of W2 should start at the beginning of the year

ROFL

Well the plus of a new engine: less crappy action. I just couldn't get past the same endless combo crap over and over. That was a game that needed risen-type action. Well, better than risen.

This is how it should be done.. PC first , consoles an after-thought.

If you baught MW2 you're a chump and deserve their shity port. Consoles are for noobs / kiddies or broke asses that cant afford a pc.
