@chiv: There were some remarks how the movie tries too hard to make it's statement about apartheid and that it insults the viewer's intelligence by it's simplicity. I partially agreed, but seeing how you understood it as an action film and felt disappointed that there were too few "badass characters" who liked to blow up stuff...damn, you really missed the whole point.
Science fiction movies usually show mankind as a victim that doen't mean no harm to anyone, always gets attacked by evil aliens but still wins in the end bacause of humans are brave, innocent and saving one another.
This shows what REALLY would happen if mankind made contact with aliens: abuse them as lab rats, try to steal their technology to kill other aliens and/or humans, project xenophobic fears on them and hate them the same way foreigners are hated among humanity,...
It shows people act like people.
Where the aliens come from and how they land doesn't even matter because the movie isn't about them, it's about the humans.

whyd you hate the bald dude? he was epic! he was fighting for humanity against an evil alien race... how is that hate worthy!!?!?!!! plus when he went hardcore at the end and rallied all his troops before taking down the Spoiler: | mech -OMG DONT LOOK YOUVE RUINED THE ENDING NOW!! | by himself... come on, he was pure awesome.
while i agree that the movie obviously shows humans as flawed, if YOU think that it was about evil humans vs innocent aliens, you are the one that missed the point. neither side was innocent, far from it. both sides had its heroes (such as the bald guy).
the difference is, i side with the humans... how could anyone not? why wouldnt you want US to win against the aliens? why wouldnt you want to see the earth saved and its people live? its a movie about flawed sides that are equal, and its only natural to side with your own side and want them to win.

Surrogates - 8/10
After all the bad things I had heard about it I was surprised that I liked it. Good old-fashioned whodunit in a sci-fi surrounding. Movie felt short which is a good sign actually although they could have given some more screen time to Ving Rhames and his followers. I really liked that whole cult aspect of people who go to extremes in their beliefs.

Didn't want to start a new thread for this question, so i'll just ask here - is the new Star Trek movie worth seeing even if you never watched the original series? Well i used to watch some Star Trek Voyager like 10 years ago or so when it was on TV. But nothing other than that.

Yeah
Squirrely: Now come on y'all. We can't waste time arguing. There could still be survivors out there. We need to hunt them down, and kill them.
Beary: How about we kill them, and then rape their bodies so we can use their blood as lubricant.

the new startrek film takes place before the original series, and in an alternate timeline
none of the things that happened in any of the earlier startrek series have happened or will happen in the timeline established for the new film
timetravel was just a 'clever' way to legimately reboot the franchise
so no, you don't have had to see any of the earlier stuff
knowing certain things might give a slight insight to the background but nothing essential beyond nerdy beard stroking

Nine - 9/10 It had that Tim Burton touch to it
Pandorum - 6/10 - I guess the crappy sound ruined the scary experience...

Ink : 9/10
Outstanding movie.... saw the trailer three times and decided to watch it after all.
Absolutely no regret that i did, allmost banned it to my recycle bin before. The first 15 minutes the movie had to grow on me but after that it really did. Great scenery, acting and music.
Empty again

Well, fuck - Star Trek 9/10
First off, what i said earlier about me only seeing Voyager was kind of an "understatement". I mean, i watched quite alot of Voyager, plus, episodes here and there of the other series (DS9 & TNG), so im familiar with the characters, the ship and the Star Trek universe and so on.
A great mix of seriousness, action and a "light hearted" (in lack of better words) space adventure. It was so brilliant in taking the now semi-old sci-fi look and feel of the original Star Trek, and making it a modern remake that felt so fresh while retaining all that we know from the original. So very enjoyable to watch! And the way it was filmed, cut, the great effects.. loved just about all of it!
Oh, and Neros ship looked so fucking cool.

Der Baader Meinhof Komplex - 9.5/10
Fantastic movie! Raw, almost realistic, that really helped to see that these were events that actually happened.

I'm definitely watching this for the CG effects, fully expecting the plot to be laughably bad though.

The Feast trilogy - ?/10
I seriously can't rate these movies because I realise that these are movies made for a micro-niche and I am not a fan of horror-comedy or parodies. But it seems like the director was having a laugh at the audience when he thought up this movie. Breaking cliches is fine but doing it so often that it becomes a cliche in itself kind of defeats the purpose.

Noone posting on their thoughts on...
2012 = 8/10.. Loved it for popcorn value and was nice and long (2.5hrs) + never really had a long dull moment. I'm a geological buff so seeing mother nature do things that taken hundreds if not thousands of years to do in... hours.. is always comical but its Hollywood. However, in totality, the movie was bloody fun and do recommend it. I frick'n so loved when Yellow Stone National Park did its thing. WOW.. that was bloody incredible. Still plenty of non-realism and real dumb things happened but oh well.. its entertainment.
Next week... ghey vampire teenage dumb-c*cks which make the early 90s THE LOST BOYS a bloody frick'n Classic..
