going back to an earlier post from you

I thought w/a mod chip I didnt need to install anything extra??

To play this game, you are required to have trucha patched IOS's installed.
IOS53 and/or IOS60 i believe.
Read up on that & how to get those on board & you'll get it.
I'm on 4.1u atm, and others are on different Wii versions, using different methods/loaders etc...
So to answer the question "do i need something other than a modchip?" I guess in this case the answer's yes.

With all the releases and fixes is it still not possible to play from a burned dvd on a softmodded console?

i just went through that tutorial
http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-faqs-guides-tutorials-only/16970-new-3-1-4-1-softmod-any-wii.html
did everything described there (except preloader), burned the pre-patched iso (sony dvd-r if it matters) and ran it through neogamma r8b7 (default settings). just smacked the first boss, so i think that's well over that 10 minute time limit bug.

i have a wiikey (v1), don't know if that makes any difference when playing games through neogamma.

It's always been possible to play from a DVD-R on a softmodded wii, even the PAL version. That's what I've been doing all along. I've been using Neogamma.

you CAN NOT play it without softmodding atm! the disc will load, but the game will crash after a few minutes. those main.dol fixes are needed one way or another btw.
follow the wiihacks guide from my post above. it might seem a bit intimidating at first if you have no clue what IOS/cIOS/neogamma etc is, but it's fuckin easy once you get into it. took me maybe an hour from start to finish.

Any way you can load DOP-IOS you can do it. I'm not sure about how you're loading your dol files, but if you have some method to load DOP-IOS you're fine.

Of course, HBC is the easiest way. Wink

Wii Options (bottom left at Channels screen), then Wii Settings.

Number will be in the top right.

Well I have a softmodded Wii and cannot get the game to work from a burned DVDR via Neogamma. I get a GREEN screen and then I think the Wii reboots!

It works fine from my external USB drive however ...

I really wish it would work from a disc though!

Do you think chances are pretty good a version will come out that will work with my chipped wii w/out installing hbc or softmods?

That's odd, Headshot. I played through the whole PAL version on my NTSC via verbatim DVD-R and Neogamma.

Honestly, I don't see them releasing a version that doesn't require a soft mod. The game has anti-piracy measures on it to cause the game to crash when played with a chip. This is known. That's why they hacked it out of the main.dol file. Any modifications they do to the iso will require softmodding to run. So basically, just softmod your wii, it's really easy if you follow guides and it opens up your wii even more anyway, which is a good thing.

i just went through that tutorial
http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-faqs-guides-tutorials-only/16970-new-3-1-4-1-softmod-any-wii.html
did everything described there (except preloader), burned the pre-patched iso (sony dvd-r if it matters) and ran it through neogamma r8b7 (default settings). just smacked the first boss, so i think that's well over that 10 minute time limit bug.

i have a wiikey (v1), don't know if that makes any difference when playing games through neogamma.

I just did this install on my wii which has a old modchip. Ran the game on neogamma and it works great. My question is will that work on any Wii or does it have to have a modchip in it?? Did I just softmod my wii, or just install HBC And Tutra ios and Neogamma, is that the same as softmodding a wii?? would I have to have had a modchip to do it? or w/out a modchip it would have done the same thing??

honestly, i don't know. so far, it works for me and you (we both have a modchip) while it won't work for headshot (who hasn't one installed). this would lead to the conclusion that you need a modchip to run it from a disc through neogamma - but then again, it's just an educated guess. i'd suggest reading through the usual wii homebrew forums Wink

/edit: overlooked Illumina's post. maybe there's a difference between pal and ntsc concerning the copy protection used, but i doubt it.

The only difference I noticed there was you have an NTSC machine whereas I have a PAL console.

Anyway ... there is yet another new fix ...
New_Super_Mario_Bros_Wii_USA_PROPER_FiX_Wii-iND

Quote:
="This is a small fix for the new protection nintendo added.
It was quite easy to make with ImageDiff and allows you to
fix the protection. Basically it's the same as the
main.dol replacememt method that has been floating around
with a much easier to apply method of patching. This fix
completly removes the protection not like the fix before
that doesnt work with the softmod and CiosCorp. Can be played
with softmods, Modchips, USB Loaders, etc. Don't forget to
have the IOS 53 trucha bug signed for this game.

Keep all console releases original and make patch fixes!
Newer methods of loading games will eventually make this
fix obsolete.

Thanks so much to QwiiF for the great release!

If you like the game, BUY it!"

Not sure I understand this bit though. "Don't forget to have the IOS 53 trucha bug signed for this game."

the copy protection (and therefore the new fix) probably has got something to do with the IOS53, which won't "accept" the fix if it's not trucha bugged Wink

ah sry Very Happy

i'll try to explain it in a way that's unstandable for ppl who haven't spent hours of reading through wii softmod stuff:
IOSes are basically the wii system files, kinda like the files of an operating system. there are multiple "official" IOSes, everyone with its number, like the aforementioned IOS53.

IOS53 probably contains some copy protection (related) stuff. the release you posted before has a main.dol fix, so the disc contents have been changed. running any burnt wii games that aren't 1:1 copies was only possible on old wii firmware versions (and therefore old IOSes) --> that's the so-called trucha bug. it was fixed later on by nintendo with system updates, so to play a modified game you need to re-introduce the trucha bug into the IOSes (for example by using DOP-IOS).
