I've tried pretty much all the available "fixes" posted on here and other forums and the only thing that lets me even play the game is a standard Razor install and the reg fix - HOWEVER, the game crashes to desktop when any special infected appears.
All the other fixes won't even let me start the game, usually it'll load to the L4D2 splash screen and an error window pops up and game crashes.
So as far as I'm concerned, it's basically unplayable until some group releases an actual proper.

glad I bought it,it's better then to mess with the cracked version.

Well I seem to be one of the unlucky ones, others here and elsewhere have got the game running for hours with no crashes and are even playing online.
I'll probably buy the game when it's reached L4D1 prices.

I had ctd after a couple of minutes of play and i tried many of the recommended work arounds. But this morning i found one that worked perfect, at least for me. I have played thru the first campaign twice with no problems and i used every weapon and killed all the SI including the witch, also everything on max settings. This is what i did:
1.) Installed Razor release and updated it with the included razor patch.
2.) DLed an updated loader from Stryder on CS.RIN.RU.
3.) Extracted files into the L4D2 directory.
4.) Edit the stryder.ini file to point to where you installed L4D2 if you didn't use the default Razor path.
5.) Run "Start Left 4 Dead 2.bat" to play the game.
Everything works perfect now, no need to mess with reg settings or anything. I'm not gonna post any links for the crack here but you can find it on that forum or at tpb. I'm not sure if this will work for everybody but if your problem is with ctd after a minute or two of play then you should give it a try. I'm also gonna buy the game when i can pick it up on sale.
EDIT: i only played SP.

And, in which file do you change the player name from the default razor1911?

I shot a zombies abdomen which left a big hole, as I could see through the gaping hole of more zombies rushing behind him I watched as he looked down and poked a finger through his abdomen falling to the ground, quite unique deaths I have to say...

t3nmannyc, i don't think there's a permanent way to change the name with this yet, the default rzr release can't either. You can try setinfo name t3nmannyc in the console but i don't think it will stick, haven't tried it yet. Keep an eye on Stryder's forum thread cause he's releasing new versions, i'm running a newer one since my last post.

The setinfo name command in the console should work, you could create a bind for it so as you don't have to type it every time you reload the game.
Just open Notepad or similar, add the line

Change Name_You_Want to the name you desire, it's best not to have any spaces.
Save as autoexec.cfg and place within the left4dead2\cfg folder of your install folder i.e. C:\Program Files\Left 4 Dead 2\left4dead2\cfg. Then when in game just press the \ key. You can change this key to whatever you want obviously by editing the line above.

realism + expert kicked my ass yesterday. tried with 3 friends for about 2 hours and we only made it to the end of the second chapter of the parish.
while the crescendo events on expert in left 4 dead usually only required you to sit in a corner until it's over, this time you gotta stay on the move, and on expert with only headshots beeing of any use, it's just insane.
it's just awesome though when you say "go! stick together!" and everyone starts running, and then 20 seconds later you turn around and one of your guys isn't there anymore and you don't even know where he is because the nameplates aren't there on realism. lol
it's extremely challenging and closet camping won't save you anymore which is great.

There's a ptach included in razor's crack folder. Rzr-init or sometihing...

Game is $29.99 USD at Gamestop for Black Friday(today) for those in the States. Not sure about deals outside the US since Black Friday is primarily a US thing.

Is there another place to get the loader? I dont understand Russion language.
