I recently purchased Madballs to play with my son. I was pushing boundaries a wee bit, it's still a little too complicated for him (he's 5).
After suggestions for anything really basic we can do together.
He can just about handle Trackmania (but we can't race together on that) so looking for something similarly simple.
Driving games are good, but not restricting it to that.
Cheap is a bonus too of course. Anything too advanced is wasted on him as yet.
I'm not a prude, kids can separate real from fictional violence, so that's not really an issue, main thing I care about is that it's very very simple.
Which is something very hard to judge, what seems simple to us is complicated as all hell to a 5 y old, was hoping someone may have experience of this.
Trine comes to mind, and the soldier and archer are pretty simple. The wizard is by far not simple at al,l I even had trouble with it while trying to keep the pace.
We do play sports, gaming is an additional activity not a replacement
Well, he's 5, we don't play sports really,we kick a ball about sand play catch. But I'm assuming that's the kind of thing you mean.

Lastest studies seem to suggest (early days yet) moderate gaming can increase focus and co-odination.
It's also damn fun so no harm in trying as long as you don't let 'em turn into an addict who can concentrate on nothing else
Another vote for Lego games. My little brother who is... I think 7 now, has been playing those for few years already. I think he managed to finish the whole game alone at age of 6.
