I am interested in installing Mplayer on my Wii since my 360 got banned so I can hopefully play DivX movies. I have a 16:9 TV, do I need to do anything special when setting this program up?? I heard one guy say his 16:9 tv doesplays movies in 4:3 only with mplayer, it sounded pretty weird.

Hmm this is interesting. So mplayer allows you to play video files from the wii? Does it work well? Is it powerful enough to run xvid etc? Whats the best media player for the wii? This one? I might give it a try - would be úber cool if it ran videos across the network via wifi ---- but that's asking alot. Space for rent. Contact me for rates!

Wii Miidia seem like it's cool, but it's not released yet. However Mplayer does play xvid and most other formats pretty well. I actually rather play xvids thru the Wii rather then thru the 360 because the 360 sounds like a powerplant or something.

Does it get 16:9 aspect right?

MPlayer CE can play 16:9 movies using the correct aspect ratio. I put it on my sister's wii, set widescreen in the wii's display settings and all videofiles play with the correct aspect-ratio. MPlayer CE can even stream from samba shares over the network via wifi if you add them to the samba config-file in mplayer CE.
