What happened? Did you guys manage to harness the power of the atom by 1920 or something?

That's 2003, padawan.

actually im playing everything fucking maxed out @ 2560x1600 (resized screenshots of course) Very Happy

yeah the graphics arent great, but its a grindy mass party style rpg. i just thought thats how theyre all supposed to look Very Happy but im playing it for the story and the characters, not because it the most stunning game evar. besides, the benefits of 5 year old graphics is that you can max it and it never slows down or gets stuttery.

Goddamn, that's almost my character. Also a (part-time) dual-wielder, and has enchanted daggers, ancient elven armour and the same stupid DLC boots.

The game's equipment is one of its lowest points, and the DLC packs just make it worse, giving you awesome items at the beginning of the game. Eventually you realize you'll have to stick with them for the rest of the game since you won't find anything better. Those boots are a good example, and so is that special silverite dagger (The Edge, I think it's called).

There's fairly reasonable variety in standard equipment, but special items are so superior and so scarce you'll barely touch normal stuff (except in the beginning), and characters will end up cycling equips just 2-3 times in seventy hours of gameplay.

Thats Liliana my "love interest" for this run, pretty handy for poisoning, backstabing, sneaking ahead and sex. Sill looking for the rest of the ancient elven armour. My main is the other char in BD armour, next run will be a mage with a love interest in mage chick, morrigan, she still did give me her ring before Very Happy

But the romance is pretty pale comparing to BG 1-2

The Ancient Elven set is incomplete in the PC version, unfortunately. You can find the main armour, helmet and gloves, but the boots (which you should be able to get in Lothering) are missing. Mad

There are a few mods for that though but hopefully a patch fixes it, nice armor otherwise.
(From using the console, but that creates a "Iron" version which is pretty much crap compared to the real proper armor.)

The Ancient Elven set is pretty much the best medium armour in the game. Not that there are many special contenders... It's fairly unique-looking, too. My main character wore it basically 75% of the game.

Wade's medium set comes reasonably close, but it's just a lazily recoloured splintmail that just offers somewhat better armour and fire resistance (which doesn't help much overall). And then there's... well, I can't recall any other unique medium armour sets... Sad

I thought I knew a few but I realized that those classed as "heavy" armor.
(Light, medium, heavy and massive - I really like the appearance of the "Legion of the dead" Dwarven massive armor though there are better sets available, Blood Dragon is nice as well though it's more or less a Dwarven armor with unique textures and glow-maps and a templar helmet.)

EDIT: Model editing must be possible by now though.

Hm... it looks armours also scale with levels. In my game Ancient Elven Armour is quite pathetic. I got it early in the game and it has armour rating of 6.something , Wades Dragonskin is at 10. and Varathorns armour is at 8. but that one has +3 on armour rating ability so its 11. and I've recently found some regular chainmail with 11.

On other hand its very true that theres little lower tier armours in game. There is a lot of heavy armours and massive armours that only warriors can wear, the rest of the party is screwed. Rogues get few medium armour (that still require a lot of strenght points to wear) and even fewer light armours. And mages are fucked. I've only replaced morigans clothes one time and it was exactly the same looking rags with better stats, and my Wyne is still in that red thing and I've found her in.

The material (And thus "color") is level dependant so at first it's Iron and then Grey Iron, Steel and so on up to Dragonbone (For metal, for cloth it's Rough Leather to Drakeskin.)

Here's the Ancient Elven set's stats:

 Spoiler:

That's pathetic to you? Comparing the centre piece with Wade's, it's only marginally weaker, and gives a bonus to dexterity. Not to mention it looks a helluva lot better, probably causes less fatigue and requires a lot less strength to be used (Wade's requirement is 30-something, I believe).

I'll admit the helm is mostly for show, but it's still pretty good.

As for the gloves, they're definitely the best medium ones in the game.
