|
 |
Hello,
I have been having ths problem for awhile now. I am using Windows 7 Ulitimate x64 with 8GB RAM. Everytime I try to uncompress large .RAR files, I always get CRC errors on random .RAR files. I am able to uncompress smaller files such as 700MB with no errors. This also happened when I ran Windows Vista Ultimate x64. I ran memtesy86+ and it reported no errors. Any help would be grestly appreciated. Thank you.

I am using WinRAR 3.91 x64 non-beta. I have used memtest86+ outside Windowsw with no errors. I am not overclocking and I do not use Kazaa.

Have you tried a different unpacker (as an alternative to WinRAR)? It seems very odd. If you have time, download and run SpinRite from a USB or CD to check the HDD. SpinRite is considered one of the best.

I just tried PowerArchiver, WinZIP, and 7Zip and they all gace me errors. I am able to uncompress them on another PC without errors. I will try SpinRite next.

SFV check the files so you'll know if those files are already corrupted. Or better, if you can get a par2 or MD5sum for those, they'll be more precise. If they are already corrupted, as it sounds, the problem might be your memory, HDD, NIC, poor ISP.. If not, your memory, HDD, HDD controller (motherboard) or HDD cables (happened to myself a week ago) might be broken. You might want to try updating your motherboard drivers and change the cables.

I tried to boot with SpinRite. It shows the disclaimer and a prompt that reads INITDISK. Then it hangs.

Could be motherboard errors (one of the buses transferring bad information somewhere)... :\ But that would have lead to numerous BSODs...

It's definately a hardware issue, you need check each component seperately in another computer if none of the test show up anything.
How long do you run memtest? I've had bad memory sticks show up only after many hours of testing. I'd also do a burn in test with the latest Prime95 or comparable app.
