Who cares what the person wants, those organs could save lives.

no, it's just another thing goverment needs to stay the fuck out of and worry about more important shit.

It's a persons right to have their organs donated or not. A girl I dated had a brother who was a donar, they took his eyes out and were able to get them to work in someone elses body, a week later her parents got a letter from the kids parents thanking them for giving their kid a chance to see.

In turn, her parents were wigged out and upset as fuck knowing their son's eyes got chopped out and had to read the card a week later.

Another girl I know's dad had a kidney transplant I think it was, he's got hepatitis now.

Government again, needs to fuck off and worry about bigger picture. Someone doesn't want to donate, then that's their decision

I don't see the problem, it's not like they will take your organs when you're alive ffs! If I have an accident I really don't care what will happen with my dead body, and if my organs will help someone (they are really of no use to me anyway) then yay...

@spykez: about those eyes chopped out, the parents are weird imo. I would be glad to know that my son's organs could help someone, after all it's the memory of the person that cares, I don't care about organs, if I remember that person in a good way, and if I know that he wanted to help, that would make his passing even easier...

the biggest problem with organ donation is all the money involved. you donate it while they make alot of money of of it. or do you think you get them for free.

I don't care about the money, ofc there's money behind everything (I remember seeing the price list and my kidney would sustain me for a few months :\ ). I think that I don't have benefits from them in my dead corpse (no shit Sherlock!), and someone could have a new shot at life because of my heart, kidney, liver, retina etc...

If you don't donate your organs you shouldn't expect to have organs donated to you. It's fucked up that some people care more about the integrity of a corpse than the life of another person. Especially under a national tax based health care system. In a messed up privately run health care system I can understand how some people would feel cheated when companies make money off a dead family member.. still.. if roles were reversed, if someone you loved needed a transplant, the decision becomes easy imo.

yeah i guess i woud donate , afterall i'm fucking dead , i could do jack if somebody took a piss on my body and maybe i'm saving a kid who had problems all his life ..
on the other hand i do understand that some people would go along with it , since they want to die and burried and not to be ripped aparat and then put hasely back together
but like Spykez said , it's up to them to CHOOSE if they want to do it , if it was mandatory it wouldnt shine a favorable light on the situation.
but if the body would be cremated i think it would be more or less a good thing since they're gonna burn the body anyway and why waste good organs ?
i find ignorat that some people expect money from this , sure money is made but since you are donor it means you fucking DONATE the fucking thing and not sell it , if the reciever want to give you money after that it'll be great but if not , bad luck for the cheap shits that are expecting some .

Why the fuck wouldn't you want to donate? Why the hell would you need your organs after you die? I just don't fucking get it. So some poor fella should just have to die, just because the one match they COULD have found, was from some ignorant fuck who chose not to. Why? Because he needed that liver to take a piss in heaven?

I mean I'm all for being able to chose (I know, sounds weird huh), it's YOUR body and all that. But fuck, WHY opt NOT to donate? I can't think if one good enough reason.

it should also be mandatory to not be stupid. Or to not be religious. But it isnt. It s a question of libertarianism and the freedom to decide for yourself.

That being said, i m going to be a donor myself when i die. It s all about choices and doing the things that seem to be right.

Its not a question of right or wrong, it's my body so I choose who/what/how/when my organs can be removed, not some paper pushing cunt sat on fat wads of money (or should that be my money?).

Im glad some people here like the fact that other people wipe their arse for them.

Yes. I believe it should be (I've already signed to be donor) as it could/do/will save people's lives.

So, because there is a MICROSCOPIC chance that you may wake up after you've been declared dead, you don't/shouldn't be an organ donor?

A good reason? No way.

They need to get the organs out fast. That probably puts a lot of pressure on them as to when they stop giving you meds and start cutting you open. I wouldn't mind too much if I was 100% dead and there was no chance of me living, but see links I posted above.

EDIT: didn't see your post, Sin. But to your question.. Yes. I would fight for my life. Not going to just give up, screw that.

Sure, and mistakes happen, in all fields of work. But in the number of people that die every year, how many percent does wake up/aren't really dead?

It may be a reason, but not a good one IMO.

They don't even check if you're an organ donor until after you're dead.

Well that's not true. The doctor was asking if my mom would have liked her organs donated just after they didn't find much brainwave activity. She hadn't yet been pronounced dead.

Ok obviously I don't know the conditions in the uk.. but if they did, then would it be ok in your opinion? Then it's just a matter of changing the rules.

I still don't think it should be mandatory. I'm pretty sure most of the population of the western world would agree with me, as there is a huge shortage of donors.

Well if it were mandatory they wouldn't have to wait until you're dead to check if you're a donor now would they.. so that's actually a point in favour of choice. Smile
As to that last part.. huh?? It shouldn't be mandatory, because there is a shortage? That's just plain confusing mate. Very Happy

Wow, some of you should stop reading conspiracy theories Rolling Eyes Uuuu the government can't have my body after I'm dead uuuu... So it's better that your body goes to the worms and to the plants, you are still doing good, right Rolling Eyes

Sure it's your body and you 'have a choice', but saying, I'm not giving my organs because: a) I'm fond of them (weird) b) I might wake up (aha, yeah, chances are great for that...not), is just plain selfish imo...
