It's kind of weird imo, in this age where games are getting easier and mainstreamed a hard, hardcore, old-school (at least that's how they describe it) game is chosen as the winner.
A lot of people (many in this thread included) haven't actually played Demon Souls. I'm a pretty 'devout' PS3 gamer and even I haven't played it. Dragon Age on the otherhand is a big multi-platform title that sold well across the board and was a first class game made by a big, respected and liked developer... it's undoubtedly going to get the majority share of user votes, but the editorial vote itself has to be more discerning and less populist.
And as much as I enjoyed Dragons Age, it's like Phluxed and Surray already said;

Still, top 10, best of lists, are always a bunch of shit, especially from mainstream game websites. I think the way Eurogamer have approached it this year is much better. They've done write ups for stand out games but they haven't ranked them or pitted them against one another. It's the way it should be. Best of lists are just a way of driving up ad revenue at the end of the day.
With all due respect to Dragon Age it must be said that Demon Souls is a better game. The reason that there is such high hate from various fanboy groups is that DS is exclusive to ps3. Sadly PC gamers aren't showing any maturity and are just blindly arguing Dragon Age to be superior without ever playing both.
And in the case that both of this two are put into RPG awards pot, so should there be in that pot Armoured Princess and it should be that game that should win all the awards.

Haven't played Demon's Souls, sadly, so i can't give an objective opinion.
Having said that, i would still vote for DA:O between the two, and the sole reason behind it is the fact that DS is just a H&S, and no H&S will ever come close to a story-centered RPG, for me. Those games are fun in their own way, but i prefer my entertainment to be a bit deeper.
I can say that much without playing both titles, just as i can say that i like DA:O more then, say, Dirt 2.

demon's souls on the other hand is a pretty unique experience.
I can't really think of anything that is quite like it, while when talking about dragon age you can immediately say that it's like baldur's gate, icewind dale, neverwinter nights or knights of the old republic. not that there's anything wrong with that, but I guess that is just what makes DS win the battle.

I just think it was underrated, 5/10 is simply not right. Also, among best SP campaign, RE5 was amongst the nominees and prototype wasnt -which was great imo.

Anyways, at least on all german game site, DA:O won the GotY or RPG awards. I don't care about the western market, its consolized anyway. Germany is the last country where the PC is the strongest market for games. So I smack myself again with the "Bat of ignorance" and ignore the other pieces of the world and their rapidly changing in taste of games
Yeah, he was arguing with me and Hfric (Spiderman) that Hfric's opinion of some game (incidentally, this game) is stupid, because plenty of reviewers like it at E3 and gave it good reviews.
One: Check the date of the Demon's Souls topic (I loved this game before a single article was ever written about it except eurogamer's who i never read anyway)
Two: I hate Halo and everything to do with it.
