Actually, I don't really think you are that limited by your CPU, especially for games. Maybe for GTA4, which seems to be looking for the cure of cancer and cracking the atom at the same time while you play, but for most stuff you should be fine. Perhaps in the future you could add an i5 or i7 with a PCIe 2.0 motherboard, but you should definitely see a sizable improvement.

CPU bottleneck is highly overexaggerated, really.
Any C2D or Phenom at 2.4 GHz or up is enough to run most games, provided that you game at 1080p or better. Obviously, there are some exceptions:
- GTA IV, because it's simply a big piece of shit 
- Source games: Very CPU dependent engine, but an E8400 is more than plenty for this
I've got an E8400 at stock (3.0 GHz) and went from 9800GTX to 5870. At the very least, it has doubled my FPS in every single game bar GTA and L4D2. Some games have seen an even bigger increase, Crysis for example. And even though the latter isn't the most optimised game either, it does demand a lot of graphical power before it starts raping your CPU.
My results are right on par with every 5870 benchmark out there
There's 2 articles about this whole thing, one is this one. I'll try to find the other one for you, which was much more recent; had like 4 different CPU's at various clockspeeds with a 5970 or 2x5870 (can't remember).

Hate you for getting it that cheap btw, my 5870 set me back 300

But there´s still a good difference between the 4850 and 4870x2!
I should see a very noticable increase in performance.

Also Crysis is not the friendliest game of the bunch when it comes to multi-GPU solutions...  Nowhere near 2x (or 1.5x) performance increase...

Nope, not yet. MSI are planning to though, assuming the Fuzion does well (or at least as well as can be expected for a stupidly high-end product).

Of course the CPU bottlenecks the GPU, this has been true for quite some time now. CPU is directly limiting your gpus max. performance. Upgrade your CPU and everything else will follow right away ...

In low resolutionsl graphics card will be more or less idle, that's why you should always use the highest resolution possible. At lower resolutions the graphics card has nothing to do, and as such it is only limited by the amount of frames the CPU can send to it. 5870 with a P4 2GHz will most likely have better, or at the very least more stable framerates at 2560 than it will at 1280.

3DMark are far from proper tests, they put a much higher load on your system than any game ever will (bar Crysis and GTA4). Try using Heaven or any game (Stalker:COP for example) for comparison.

Not really, only the physics associated with those explosions.
You've got the wrong idea about all of this. With the obvious exceptions aside, any dual core CPU made in the last two years will spend half the time idle when gaming. The very newest games are starting to make use of your system like Crysis. In that regard, Crysis is quite unique. |

The card has arrived, but now I have to buy a new power supply.
God damn it!
My LC Power 600W wont do the job, it says on the box 650W minimal.
Besides, it doesn't have the 8 pin connector needed for this card.
And I almost had to buy a new case! The card fits in mine without 1mm of free space in the end. Its a cooler master c-690, which has a considerable size.
Oh well... Time to go to the store...

The 650W is nonsense. 600W is more than plenty.

I wanted to try with my 600w power suply, but it doesn't have the 8 pin connector.
I bought an Antec 750w! I thought about the possibility of buying the connector but it wouldn't have the proper voltage.
