I need some advice if anyone can help!
I´m thinking of buying a LED monitor, but I don´t know which one to choose.
Right now I´m looking at the two models of the tittle but i´m open to suggestions.
My budget is around 350€.
I heard good things about the LG, but it´s kinda ugly...

Can't find anything on the LG, the Samsung seems to be good. Much better than any of the other shit monitors they've released over the past 18 months.
Good default colours (you still want a calibration profile, they've got a slight blue tint), good contrast and less than 1 frame input lag.

Just noticed something I completely overlooked: LG W2486L-PF
Philips panel, which pretty much means it's a shit cheapass panel. So yeah, Samsung

You know this also depend on who the manufacturer of the panel is. If I'm not mistaken, I believe Samsung panels are mostly in Europe (I know mine is), and I've read that they are the best (panels) in Samsung monitors

They're not. Samsung's history with panel juggling is probably one of the worst.
I did a lot of research last summer when I wanted a new monitor. Problem is that a lot of reviews on the web are done with the highgrade panels (mostly AU Optronics or Samsung's own panels), which are later replaced by lower quality Philips panel (because they're cheaper obviously).
Some companies are really honest about this matter, LG is one. The monitors based on Philips panels are suffixed with -PF, most companies don't do that however
On a sidenote: Most panels used in TFT monitors are Taiwanese or Korean; AUO is based in Taiwan, Samsung in South Korea. European would be Philips, although they're still manufactured in Asia as far as I know
Anyway, in this case, the Samsung is definitely better, and it seems they finally got around their flaws. Most of their monitors in the past 18 months either had horrible colours and contrasts, or massive input lag. Seems this one does both right for once!

Well mine is Samsung, I have checked that 'secret menu' thing, and if what I read is true then

Samsung has this 'secret' menu, where you can see the details about your panel and stuff, you need to put the brightness and contrast to 0 iirc and then pres menu button for like 15 sec or sth like that...
TVs have it too...
EDIT: I have googled it a bit and it's hidden service menu
Code: | To access "Service Menu"
1. Adjust the brightness and contrast to 0
2. Press "Menu" (first button from left)
3. Press "Source" (second button from right) for 5 seconds.
S = Samsung
A = AU Optronics (Australian made)
C = Chi Mei Optronics (China made) |
Mine had S in it ^^

I believe this would work fine on a monitor but for some reason I don't think this will work on an hdtv as they have different buttons, if I remember I'll try this on both my monitor and hdtv...

Yeah different set of buttons to hit - I'm scared to do that because I'm pretty sure I'm returning this 32" and getting the 40". Reason being I'm hoping the 1920x1080 on the 40" doesn't cut off the edges on the browser and what not like it does on the 32" I have now...
