Testing the Beta now and it crashed like 30 mins in. The framerate is still choppy, ground combat is pathetic and the space combat is well too kiddy... Also seeing the chat then many people from WoW seemed to check this out too cause most of the chat was about penises and fucking someones mom :S

I think this says it all. Very Happy This supposed to be the launcher.

 Spoiler:

EDIT: that little that I managed to spend in, was choppy with uninteresting areas (waaaaaay too roomy for a space ship, nothing like the corridors of the TV shows). The character creation is ok I guess, the ground combat is pathetic (spam phaser fire (or put it on auto-fire) and watch the most uninspired combat ever), got disconnected before I could get to space combat.

I'll try it some more when they fix the servers, but they sure made a pretty abyssimal first impression.

EDIT2: well, they are back, but now the server is full. And this was supposed to be a single-server mmo. Apparently they are unaware of the existance of queues.

It's open beta, have you ever tried a beta before? I thought not. No I'm not picking this game up so don't call me a fan. But these issues are perfectly normal for a beta, you see them in every one.

From what I've seen in video of the beta on YouTube, it looks hilariously bad... Sad If anyone wants a great Star Trek space tactical game, get Nexus the Jupiter Incident and get the Star Trek mod for it. It is amazing how bad all Star Trek games are in comparison.

Fundamentally flawed and boring combat, uninterresting environments are perfectly fine for a beta? You sir have some pretty interesting ideas, I have to admit.

I'lllook around to see how they managed to capture the exploration missions they promised a while back, but so far, this is a rushed MMO, with no redeeming features whatsoever.

You can tell all that from playing 30ish minutes in OB? Guess you're not gonna be playing any MMO EVER released.

Well, I walked around in the Earth starbase a bit, costumized my ship (the system offers poor choices for my science ship ATM, only 3 design for different parts of the body, a few paint jobs, nothing extraordinary, but functional), recruited an unknown female officer (yet to find a way to costumize her appearance) and took my first few assignments. Beggining to feel a bit like Star Trek, so I just might change my mind about the game in the end.

FTD: 1169592 Star Trek Online Beta Client 70x50 Par files a bit on the slim side.

I grabbed it and it works perfectly, its the FULL client, with a 128meg patch to download once you log on.

plus i would not have posted it here without actually testing it first Smile

Am I just trippin' or did I hear somewhere that APB was gonna be free-to-play instead of pay-to-play?

You WEREN'T tripping, at least.. not originally. When Realtime Worlds first announced APB, it was announced as F2P. That appears to have changed now, as I read in OXM that APB is now a pay-to-play title Sad

ST-O is back online.

Well i played this for about 2 hours tonight, and tbh what a PoS!!!!, this game is going to need crap loads more effort put into it if its going to succeed in the Pay-2-Play market.

Ground combat was just f*****g terrible, i got bored just doing the training.

Felt the ground combat was push 2 buttons run here, run there, nothing more too it, and god did it either lag or have terrible frame rate issues with stutter. (And no i have a pretty damn good machine)

Camera acted a bit glitchy at times, but over all controls were fairly responsive, other than the stutter.

Space stuff wasn't too bad, but then again it was still very limited, i would like to have seen them at least allow the big battles to happen in the beta to get a real feel for the game.

Controls fairly easy nothing strenuous to do, basically all mouse control with a few keybinds.

This part gfx wise was very cool, and smooth, if a little slow, but at low level thats not surprising, spent a few talents in engineering, got a little more speed, but felt like it was still a snail at times,

The voice acting was just so awful i had to turn it off.

i know this is beta, buts its been closed beta for a fair while, and with a month to go until retail i feel this is another Conan just waiting to happen, a game thats not even close to being finished pushed on to the market to make some cash back from the millions that have been spent on it, then pull the plug after a few months, theres just nothing really in the game to keep someone playing it over and over again from what i saw.

Will give it until close to release and hopefully they may have introduced to us to a little more than what is on offer now. The game has been shrouded in too much secercy from Atari to do this game any good.

Well after my ten minutes of playing, it looks like it could be fun. I wouldn't know for sure because I can't actually proceed any further Laughing As soon as I try to beam across to the Khitomer, it says "map is full"

Very Happy

=Uber quick edit=

Wait, it opened now after trying a few times. Personally? I like the look and feel of it so far, it looks like it has potential - but that's just now. I will, of course, update with proper feelings and observations once I've played some more.

Forget APB, it's extremely repetitive, extremely unbalanced (weapons), awful driving, lagging like hell, suffers from hellish stuttering and bugged to oblivion...
First it was fun until you figured out how it works. I had better sold my account.
But the character creator and custom editors are the most awesome thing I have seen.
