none of the gfx options seem to make any performance gains here so dunno what causing it to run like a dog.. | The game is extremely CPU-hungry. Even if you lower the graphics to absolute minimum, if your CPU is not fast enough or is busy doing other things, the game will be extremely slugish. That might be an explanation.
The same is true for the Cahmpions Online. |
so your saying startrek online is more demanding than any other mmo i run all bells and whistles on the market?
im doubting your logic, i call it cruddy coding...
and a good example of that loging not really up to much is the game is very instanced.. so that is supposed to relieve stress on once pc not make it worse lol..

STO is an absolute travesty from start to finish. It fails in just about every way possible.
And for whoever said it was "CPU hungry". There are WAY more CPU intensive games out there that run way better than this poorly coded POS.
It has issues with ATI and Nvidia alike. Maybe the jackasses at Cryptic should have figured these things out BEFORE open beta.
My prescription - AVOID!

I used the official torrent and it was pretty fast.
The game is boring tho.. |
Mind telling me where i can find it? All I found earlier was some mirrors that sucked. Then again I got a free open beta key so the servers available for those who preordered is out of the question. |
its on UseNet now.

Having played it like 30 hours then i can say i have changed my mind a little ( for the better ). Because it is BETA then it has some problems like some bugs and server lag and such but still some things leave me wanting for more. The combat in big battles is better now that i can do more skills and i have better weapons but its stilly kinda boxy or something. The space combat is actually pretty well done i must say but thats just me. Havent checked out the PVP yet but have enough days to go and check it out. I just hope they add more levels to the BETA soon cause im starting to hit the level cap and i want to check out the higher level ships. Also im wondering what the end game is going to be like? Big instanced battles against the Klingon or the Borg and im also wondering how much staying power does the game have as in expansions or extra content? What might they add?

The room for expansions is pretty much limitless, since it's Star Trek. They could expand upon the random missions, introduce new species and empires, playable sides (Romulan, Cardassia, fully PvE Klingon side). Because of the seemingly altered state of the Borg, I don't dismiss them as a future playable race either.

I only played for half an hour or so but it seems as if it could be fun.
One thing that sprung to my mind is how canon the setting is?
Is it the classical Star Trek universe or the JJ Abrams reboot thingie?
btw. for some uknown reason I feel the urge to subscribe to Eve O.o

Classical, but 30 years after Nemesis, and according to some loading screen messages, Data didn't die and became captain of the Enterprise-E.

The space fighting is really fun with some friends, the ground combat on the other side is abysmal and pain inducing. They should have scrapped that awkward bugfest and put more manpower in the space stuff.

Did you try all the links on this page? Some still appear to have keys available.

There is button to fire all weapons at once, though its not auto fire, you must press it again and again like a idiot!

Also; you can right click phaser banks and tie them together, so they fire at once, and simply press SPACE to fire. CTRL+SPACE fires all torpedo and mine launchers.

The way they are now it's painful. especially in larger battles.
Yesterday I had a rather long battle with 3 other people against two Kling Warships, a Battle Cruiser and a whole assortment of Birds of Prey and Raptor Escorts.
I stopped counting on how often I blew up and I stopped counting how often I "collided" with another ship. Larger battles just get messy and confusing.

Or just hit 1,2,3 accordingly to what you have set up.
I have disrupter banks [180 DPS] on my forward banks and phaser arrays on my rear giving me a stupendous firing solution at 45 degrees and broadsides at 280 degrees.
I also pumped loads of points into my science officer (Busty LaRue) who has the 'disable shield' (forgot name) ability.
So basically I take a run in putting all power to my forward shields hit 'disable shields' and then pump some disrupter at them, I then turn and give them a broadside with the arrays.
Any damage is healed by my engineering officer Scotty McScott.

Aye, I've got a set of Dual Disruptors (45 arc, 164DPS) on front, alongside my torp launcher, and a set of wide-beam Phasers on the rear.

LOL! Same here mate. I do suicides at first, pumping all power into forward shields, hitting them hard with my disruptors and torp salvo, then I hit Evasive Maneuvers and swing round behind the enemy.

You get your disrupters from that 'ship in distress' scenario?

Incidentally, how do you earn exploration badges? |
Hmm, missions is what I read but I have no direct knowledge I am afraid.

I got my ass handed to me from the 2nd wave on the very first patrol!

whats your ship's ID?
I will look for you, mines USS Victory.
I haven't set comms up yet is it straight forward talking to other players?

USS Ragnarok <3
Oh and yes, the whole "comms" thing is just like a chatroom. It's real simple.
