Quick question guys, I got a XENON and with the first ever NXE dashboard (without the blades) when it was first released I cant remember when that was but I havent switched it on since, Could I do something with this?
If you've got the old dashboard without the new blade system, then it's not the NXE (NXE is New Xbox Experience and it IS the new blade system) and therefore hasn't got the June 09 update. Your machine is free to JTAG if you have the knowledge and skill.
that's actually a good idea, haven't thought about a proper connection solution yet. if i didn't need FTP, i'd wire it directly into the RJ45 socket of the xbox

followed a guide on X-S to make the cable... he mounted the coupler under the hdd so he can plug it in without opening the case... I just left the RJ45 connector behind the DVD Drive... with all of the software based NAND flashers released now there will not be a reason to hook it back up unless I need to bad flash recover
The part going to the printer cable is not part of the JTAG hack, it is the SPI cable needed to flash the NAND. The actual JTAG hack can be seen in my picture and is the 3 wires connected next to the GPU, those need to be left connected on any flashed box to allow booting of the custom kernel.
the hw in the 360 is pretty old now. unless there is an EASY way to fully hack the 360, then it will never serve as a real competing media centre. When you can go out and buy a WD HD player for £60, why bother fucking around?
Home brew? Maybe. I mean, emulation would be kinda fun, as would playing games from a USB HDD. But once again, unless it's made REALLY easy, then this is all pointless imo.
Old or not, it's still a triple-core PPC running at 3.2Ghz, so playing HD content is effortless. You may be able to get a HD standalone player for £60, but I'll guarantee that player can't play games
The 360 option is basically just an all-encompassing solution. As for easy method? I certainly hope so, as well hoping for a method that works on Pre-June 09 boxes
Btw FreeBoot requires Cygnos, but XBReboot doesn't? :/
Edit: ah, it does. Some people seem to think its more reliable than XBReboot, but well... XBReboot is an easier option.
Freeboot is inferior to XBR 0.3 in many ways. The stability issue is non existent now and freeboot does not autopatch media/path checks. Forget Cygnos and freeboot, waste of money and time.
It only converts NXE installed games to a game on demand package so you dont need the disc in drive. Nothing to do with XEXLOADER (XEXMENU NOW) so no owning at all
