Everquest II's launch didnt have such problems |
That's because no one cares about EQ2. Want 50$ back I paid for that garbage.
ON TOPIC: It feels so good to finally play WoW retail, knowing no one will delete your character |
Be ashamed of yourself:

EQ2 is MMORPG for explorers.
WoW is MMORPG for PvP'ers (aka 1337 pvp kiddies, etc.).
I hate very much immature WoW (most of it from battle.net) community. This is the biggest factor why I doubt about playing WoW.
If I want to PvP I'll just grab Guild Wars, which has no monthly fee.
I'm EQ2 beta tester and the game is shaping nicely. Sony is optimazing very well. If I compare how it was a month ago and how it is now, now I get like 2 time more FPS with the same gfx settings. I'm pretty amazed how fast sony is fixing bugs in EQ2, they release patches with tons of fixes every week."

Still, I have no doubt they will sort it out, I believe blizzard are one of the most reliable developers in regards to their support for the customer.
I just hope they don't lose respect for their customers because WoW is going to make them so much money they'll be rolling in it. |
Well, if they did then that wasn't so smart. WoW sold on it's first day even more than it did in the US.
Blizzard Entertainment® today announced that World of Warcraft® has become an overnight success in Europe, achieving record-breaking sales in its first 24 hours since the game launched on Friday, 11th February. World of Warcraft, the company's subscription-based massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), has sold-through an estimated 280,000* copies at retail on day-one,
EDIT: They did expect the response to be strong:
Our experience of launching World of Warcraft in North America last year has helped us to prepare for Europe by providing more boxes at launch than we had previously planned and deploying more servers from the start, which we hope will allow us to provide a smooth and fun game experience from the outset for everyone playing

The community has been split 3 ways, US, EU and Asian, and all have their own servers, though in the near future US and EU will be able to play with each other.
Again, because you're a mod.

FFS, the servers are down now.
I'm getting a bit sick of this. Maybe you were right Pizda, you'll probably have a better experience in march.

This is the type of genre it is, you pay to be a part of the huge playing community, you pay for the servers, and you pay for the updates. MMORPGs are the kind of games you can play for years and years and it keeps getting freshend up. It's worth it, especially if the game kicks ass, like WoW does.

I'm so tempted but the screenshots don't sell it for me.
Anyone got a review they can recommend as reflective of the game? Or has anyone here who's been hesitant like me played the game and been converted - and wants to express himself?

Warning! World of Warcraft can be extremely tedious and repetetive at times, long walks, dozens of similar quests and sometimes a lack of feeling of accomplishment.
If you feel that this can dissuade you, at ANY time - then don't spend your money... I promise you that there will be lots of the exact opposite, but at times (sometimes a few days in a row) you feel as if you're a robot (kill 60 of those, kill 15 of those, find X loot from Y, etc.) less than a player immersed in a world... ALSO there are times when it feels absolutely NOT unique, you run around in a world where there are copies of you doing the exact same thing you do - with the same progress... all level 16 druid taurens have basically the exact same fighting abilities (this can make you feel as if you're just a clone, and that there's absolutely nothing unique about "your" character).
At times this is the very best game quality available, but some times you just want to throw the game out of the window.
Yes, yes I'm back.
Somewhat.

this game is dangerously addictive. I think it needs warning stickers. Is there a remedy? I want my sleep back!

As a level 16 druid, and to simply give a slight argument against this, I have spoken to level 19 druids who didnt know bear form.. I also find people doing missions long after I have done them.. Now, this is due to them being dumb.. and you are right that the other druids of my level should have the same abilities as I do. But there is also the fact that my good friend is a leather worker, so my armor is much higher than theres, this also means I spent money on a mace skill and maces so my attack is higher (I recently killed a Warrior 1 level above me).. Sure the game has its similarities.. lots of them.. but when compaired to almost any other MMORPG this is a HUGE leap! The game is truely fantastic and very addictive.. I have worlds 100 times as large as games like City of Hero's to explorer, each one different with new kinds of quests and beasts to defeat.. Killing 10 of one thing and 15 of another is no problem when the time spent inbetween consists of 40 of the opposition's side attacking my home town and us beating them down, or Im traveling around the "world" on the back of a flying lion.. I can deal with the slight tedious moments for the simply amazing game play moments..
I know these games dont do it for everyone, running around doing the same thing with slight changes and fun bits in the middle isnt everyones cup of team.. and paying for something, let alone each month isnt THAT much fun.. But I promise that 90% of real gamers will enjoy this, at least for the first month you get with the £24 game price.. you can't go wrong!
Also, dont look at screens to judge.. look at what we're pretty much all saying.. THIS GAME OWNS!
Im done.. *goes back to playing*

90% of the "real" gamers... lol, great self-serving argument there. What I said stems from my experience as a lvl 30 Warrior in US:OB, and EU:OB, and now Retail (as a druid). Like I said, the game has it's ups and downs, but it's just stupid to ignore the fact that there are many factors in the game that can lead you into feeling sick of the game.
"real gamers", so you mean if ie. Fatal1ty would play WoW and dislike the game, there would be a 90% chance that he wasn't a "real" gamer.
Getting hold of a leather worker to buy armor from isn't that hard, you don't even have to have a friend that is a leather worker, I went by the auction house and bought myself a really nice magical leather armor with a +4 stamina +4 spirit and 105 extra in armor (that is a lot for me as a lvl 17 druid) ... sure, you can also train two-hand mace, and you can become a seal, etc. - these are things that make this game good... but it doesn't change the fact that it gets tedious, that walking around gets boring, that having to kill 60 bristleback boars and taking their tusks gets a tad bit repetetive - the combat is a bit too unvaried for my taste... it's basically, click on opponent, then cast spells from time to time until combat ends... I would want some more interactivity... or the feeling that you can get the edge on combat by just being skilled.
Now, notice that I don't say there's no interactivity _at all_ , there is ... but there's too little of it, that's what I'm saying (and NO, I DO NOT want to have the clickfest of Diablo).
This MMORPG isn't a huge leap, it just copies most of the good parts of many of the other MMORPG's and puts it into the Warcraft-world.
Yes, yes I'm back.
Somewhat.
