If you mean the one that yo have to connect dots- it's like a Memory game, just slide over the dots to see their symbol, and find the second one with the same symbol and left click both of em.

If you mean the one where the screen slides- I was confused about that to. You need to find a match to the part that is shown in the upper left corner of the hacking screen, just press space "lock on" on the parts.

Ah, thanks. Rather confusing, hopefully I'll get the hang of it eventually... but the dots one is easy at least.

Maybe it's your gfx or audio drivers. Did you try to rename the loading screen vid to skip it if possible ?

Oh, and what cybtropic said.

Thanks for you and the other two guys for the advice. I tried renaming the loading screen in order to force the game to skip it, but the game hangs up anyway. Could I be on the wrong track here? I'll see what I can do about ffdshow, regardless.

Meanwhile, any further tips would be most welcome.

Also, is there anyone still using a single-core system? How does the game fare?

Can't, atleast from what I can see, there's a Engine.INI file in the game directory but it seems to do little aside from setting some initial variables (Tried using it to get at the console.) and the rest is kept in C:\Users\UserName\Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect 2 but it's very basic and some files are coded or encrypted somehow.
(I can understand the profile file but why the settings files? aside from what you can set in the launcher program)

EDIT: Unless values can also be added to GamerSettings.ini instead of what's usually there like custom key bindings and what not, doubt it though but it might work, will try to disable that smoothing system to see if this works, should be noticeable with FRAPS and fairly straightforward.

EDIT: Inserting worked sort-of.

[SystemSettings]
UseVsync=False

Added to GamerSettings.ini, exited the game and the [] tagged entry was gone but the value was added to the existing [systemsettings.ini] can't find a way to disable the smoothing system so instead of 60 FPS I now have 62 FPS.

I Can't see where the complaints are coming from really, yes, they removed some skills, but I'm not missing them so far because the skills that I care about are still there. They have removed the ability to zoom out and pan around you party, this alone set the game apart from a console port, now it's gone.
This function enabled you to play tactically which in my mind made the game.

EA's purchase of Bioware was a major mistake.

There's nothing tactical about this game, so such an option would be useless. Yes they have cut out some skills, options etc., but not anything essential. They dropped the dead weight. I'd much rather have this than a game with crappy elements just so it can be more RPGish.

I'm not missing that tactical thing at all... It was very useful in Dragon Age but it isn't needed in this game. :/

Not atm, but when you have a full team with many powers and tough enemies believe me you'll miss it.

I never used the tactical view in ME1, even though I paused it constantly. I doubt I'll miss it in ME2.

Man playing this I cant help but wonder how Kotor 3 might have been if It'd been produced as a singel player game. Could've been something really special.

Excellent game so far, as mentioned above alot of dead weight has been cut giving you a much more action oriented shooter with minor tactical and rpg elements. Love this combo, if only there'd been some space sim elemtens where you'd fight enemy ships with a fighter. That would make this excellent game legendary.
Also love the swearing in this, "You dont fuck with Aria". Very Happy

i found:

[Engine.VSync]
ForceFullVSync=True

in x:\Program Files (x86)\Mass Effect 2\BioGame\Config\DefaultEngine.ini

but changed to False, the fps still locked at 60fps

So far I've added many other commands from that file to GamerSettings.ini after altering the file itself but only the VSync command (Not the full one, other one.) seems to have done anything I could notice.

Looks like this now.

 Spoiler:

EDIT: Other than that you can also rename the EA and Bioware logo files and the "attract" movie file to start the game faster without logo movies playing.

it seems 62fps is the UE3 engine's smooth sys limited, so I copy the below to the ini, but still limited at 62fps

[Engine.GameEngine]
bSmoothFrameRate=True
MinSmoothedFrameRate=22
MaxSmoothedFrameRate=262

The only thing that's irked me so far is the "mission complete" screen popping up. It seems all of the other streamlining has been for the better.

I'm pretty sure you gain more bonus resources, alignment points and levels based on what level your ME1 character was. You also get some bonus cash for having a "rich" ME1 character. Didn't really pay attention to what I received so I don't have any numbers for you.

Yuck, even the music is complete FAiL. Where is the Vangelis-inspired masterpiece of the first one? Now it's the usual generic over-melodramatic sci-fi crap that is heard in every sci-fi game. Would have even preferred the Dark Void soundtrack by Bear McCreary (same guy that scored BSG).

This entire game feels awful lot like Modern Warfail 2. Huge production values, technically a lot better, but it's just empty in the inside in every possible way. Mass Fail 2. Typical megalomania by developers who can't get over themselves (or EA).
