Firefox seems to be getting more stable and secure than ever. Speed and memory consumption are also very satisfactory.

I'm very happy with it Cool

I'm also sporting a nice cool persona, lol

I put a nice 10-day poll to spark up some wars. Laughing

*scoffs* It's a buggy piece of trash, dumping it was the best browser decision I ever made. Right after I switched to Chrome. You know... a browser that doesn't crash more than IE, like Firefox does Razz

The only reason it's so popular is because of the stupid number of extensions available for it - the downside being that as soon as you actually start USING those extensions, memory usage and overall speed/stability of the browser plummets like an iron fucking cannonball.

I use it at work because of firebug too and because it's open source (we are not allowed to use closed source software that is not authorized Sad ).

But I would never touch it at home. I don't need a slow browser that needs plugins to have a comparable usability as opera. And with every plugin it starts slower and runs crappier + the crashes increase.

@VGADeadcafe: So you've never experienced the "Ooops, that is embarassing..." message? Laughing

My firefox runs just fine, except it hogs bunch of memory, but that's only a problem because I have a low amount of it Sad

That's the same amount my opera 10.5 pre-alpha! crashes Laughing

I can't remember the last time it crashed here (who knows how many months ...)

Then again, the last few years I'm having incredible stability on my PCs, almost everything works ultra-silky, I'm blessed.

I finished The Saboteur with only 1 crash, while everyone else seemed to crash and roll on their own puke waiting for a patch ! Maybe I'm in my own awesome dimension ! Laughing

Firefox doesnt crash often here, as well. And if it does its back up in 3 sec with everything restored... so whats the point ? my version:
Build identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.3a1pre) Gecko/20100122 Minefield/3.7a1pre

Although firefox really does not free memory as often as it could. A restart with restoring all current tabs often frees, i dunno, 50% of its usage?!

Firefox has never crashed here. Chrome is a simpleton piece of shit; this is the conclusion I have reached after forcing myself to use it for 2 days now (back to FF now). Extensions are eons away from making it as useful as Firefox is. Chrome also doesn't allow as much control as Firefox, so some features will never be implemented (distinguish Chromium, an open-source browser, and Chrome).

For those that say FF never crashed, B*llsh*t. I guess all you do is type word documents. FF does crash. not often, but it does. It also takes alot of memory. I use it all the time, but just because IE blows chuncks even more. I hope another vendor makes a brand new browser cause we need another option.

havent had firefox crashes since the 1.0 days. If you dont install thousands of useless plugins, it s an awesome browser. For me it s stable and fast (even though i have installed quite a few useful plugins) and i like it better than opera / chrome.

people should also consider that crashes might stem from other software running on the system, namely AV and firewalls, which can be a pain in the ass for programs connecting to the internet. Flash on websites or just badly programmed websites also often make problems. So it might be your specific machine / your browsing habits as well, that impair firefox and make it crash.

also, browser wars are so 90ies Laughing

I see Firefox wins easily.

Does anyone else have a little glitch with the title of the tab when browsing around Nfohump ?
It seems after the "Loading" there are a couple of leftover characters at the right end of the tab.

I think I noticed it after upgrading to Firefox 3.6, can anyone confirm it ?

EDIT: Now it stopped doing it. Oh well.

firefox started using 2 processes now (Minefield 3.7a1pre Build 201000130043817).
firefox.exe
mozilla-runtime.exe
maybe more failsafe now? firefox now also catches crashing extensions and shows a popup message for that (foxit reader extension died several times...)

I have maybe 2-3 crashes a year with FF (use it at home and at work), but usually they happen when I have a bajillion tabs open. But with the restore tab feature when it re-starts kind of takes care of this issue.

not using 3.6 yet since some of my more used extensions are not compatible yet Smile

I already have it,I forgot about that functionality. just updated and chose to override compatibility warning Smile

it was just IEtab and all-in-one gestures anyways, so I'm sure they will work fine in 3.6 Smile

With todays memory capacity does memory consumption actualy becomes a valid argument? Who the fuck cares about that. Speed, stability and addons is what makes a good browser. Who cares how many resources it uses. When I see a browser that gobbles up 5 GB of RAM then it will become a concern unless computers will have 150 GB of RAM by then.

Memory consumption is related to speed, stability, proper coding. The most buggy programs are bloatware apps, the most stable are lean programs.

As long as you don't use IE, I say it all comes down to personal preference. I use Opera as my main browser, but being a webdeveloper I have them all installed obviously (including 2 VM's for IE6 and 7, thank you MS) Sad
If I need to debug some JS or watch some ajax traffic I use Firebug, but other than that Opera is my browser of choice. Also the only one which renders HTML/CSS exactly like it's meant to be =]

If I had to choose a browser other than Firefox I'd go with opera. I'd never ever waste time on Chrome. Crap browser by google (ad-company, hello!?) based on the safari rendering engine.. What's next, you're going Apple with OSX? Wink
