Worst game I have owned for my PS3, probably because I haven't played any others in the series but I'm still going to be trading it in. tis boring and all the characters are gay lol.

I think you mean the "vibration" moment. Mantis says he will move the controller with his mind (like in MGS1) but then he realises that there's "no vibration" this time around and says admirative "Your skills have improved.. or rather, your hardware" lol...on of the funnyest moments like, ever.

People dissing this game clearly didn't have enough attention span to stick at it for more than 5 minutes... admit it guys!
The controls are a bit confusing at first, however the game itself is extremely engrossing and loads of fun. Fuck the prrevious games, i didnt watch them but it was fantastically fun with know prior knowledge

I purchased the PS3 yesterday and borrowed the game from a cousin. I played it for about 40 minutes and so far I loved it. The presentation in this game is the best Ive ever seen. Before the game actually started, that whole television program thing that comes up where you can change the channel, I couldn't figure out the significance of it but it was still cool nonetheless!
Back in 2006 I purchased an Xbox 360 mainly because of 1 game; Splinter Cell Double agent (although it was also out for PS3). Anyways Im a huge stealth game fan, always have been and so far MGS4 is totally worth it and Im not regretting the PS3 purchase. And i love watching cutscenes as long as they are presented well with nice graphics
I have one off topic question regarding the PS3.... I purchased a Mad Catz component cable along with the console yesterday morning because those component cables were cheap. But when I turn out the PS3 or Im in a game, there are these weird colored lines that go from the bottom of the screen to the top in a continuous pattern. The cable has 3 connectors; Xbox 360, Wii, and PS2/PS3. So when I tried out the cable with my Xbox 360, the picture was fine with no moving lines. So I can't figure out whether its the PS3 or the Mad Catz cable.....
Will this problem go away if I buy the official PS3 component cable? I cant purchase HDMI because the tv in my room is wall mounted where the HDMI is blocked by a metallic panel that is holding the tv up there

The comercials are meant to show you the technological and socio-political state of the MGS(4) universe in a very postmodernist/satirical kind of way. It is a world where nanotechnology is a commodity, private military companies are part of the daily life and the people are as nonsensical as ever.

Funny thing is, even without those 50%, MGS4 may still become the best gaming experience you ever had |
I did play the demo for MGS1 though if that counts for anything
Played it from a demo disc that came with 1998 issue of Playstation magazine

Oh I see now. Very nice extra details theyve added to the game

Finally completed this the other day and my total playtime was 18 hours and 8 minutes. I watched every single cutscene and also read up on some background info from Metal Gear wiki on some of the characters like big boss, the boss, zero, big mama, sunny, raiden and rose. The story was very nicely done and tit definitely had an epic ending.
And I understood some of the inside jokes such as that flashback where it lets you play MGS1 shadow moses level. Ironically THAT was the level in the pre-release demo that I played back in the days so I knew exactly where to go since i played that demo many times
The gameplay itself was pretty sweet. Loved the weapon selection and customizable options.
One of the things I did not enjoy was the constant framerate drops. And I was talking about this with someone else and they say that they have never seen any framerate drops in MGS4. Why do people say these things?? Theyve got to be completely blind to not see fps drops. Fps drops constantly during cutscenes as well. Only on shadow Moses the fps was pretty decent during gameplay. Fps in Act 1 is horrid.
But beisdes the fps issues, the game was pretty awesome due to its gameplay. Im not keeping the PS3 however because I purchased it to just play this 1 game. Im selling the console next week so its kinda like I rented it
It was well worth the rent!

I know I already stated it before, but I agree with that guy above partially about Snake Eater : Snake Eater is definitely better than MGS4, MGS4 is trying to be Snake Eater with PS3 graphics, so nothing really incredible. Still, the final battle is epic, and some moments (you all remember the crawling sequence which is IMO one of the only scene where you can feel Snake's pain) are too but MGS3 has some epic moments like that too (the sidecar chase sequence in MGS3 is a lot better than the one in MGS4 for instance, and most of the bosses are better in MGS3 except the final MGS4 battle which owns all MGS).
So what i'm trying to say is of course MGS4 is epic, but since it's nothing REAL new compared and the gameplay hasn't evolved much since MGS3 On the good old PS2, I wasn't impressed by the game (and the graphics aren't incredible either). Just another GREAT game (with a terrible act3 before the sidecar chase), but I definitely remember being more "involved" in the Snake character of MGS3 rather than MGS4 (plus the 60's is a better time line !). It made me more emotive than MGS4, almost as if you felt Big Boss' pain when he lost his eye. MGS4 is nothing like this really.
That, and I think globally the soundtrack of MGS3 is better (the best theme of MGS4 is Metal Gear Saga during the final battle which is basically a mix of some MGS3 soundtracks...). So yeah, I was disappointed a 2005 game on a shitty PS2 brought me the very same experience of a 2008 game on the PS3... Can't speak much about MGS1, I played it after MGS2 so it felt old. MGS2 was awesome back then but compared to MGS3, it's definitely lacks a few stuffs, specially around the story which is too complicated and confusing. Oh, and I missed having to put bandages on Snake's arm when it was broken, etc, it was really well done in MGS3 and it's a shame the idea was completely abandoned because people were too lazy to press start and heal Snake manually (yeah it's much easier to spam Rations...)
Too bad it's PS3 only, with proper programmation it could have been ported easily to PC or 360 so more people could enjoy MGS4. I know I did ! (and sold the PS3 right after )
And I agree with @timechange01, the framerate was terrible, noticed it IMMEDIATELY specially considering MGS2 (not MGS3 sadly but still was OK) was constant 60fps on PS2... Shitty use of the PS3 if you ask me...

I thought the final battle/boss in mgs4 was one of the most epic fight in any game ever, including previous mgs games.
Also not sure you really understood the story but it was actually Ocelot, not Liquid

it was ocelot but he adapted some of liquid´s traits through the arm in mgs2.
ocelot was a much more interesting mgs character anyway, liquid was just an evil 2nd snake, and he was only part of 1 game.
before phantom pain is out i ll have to do another run of the whole series so far,
mg1, mg2, mgs, mgs2, mgs3, mgs4, pw, gz

From what I understood the arm was just a gimmick and didn't have him have any more liquid traits.
He was just playing Liquid's role to fool people.

yea in mgs4 it was just a mechanical arm, but in 2 it was liquid´s, he just played along in 4 even though he didnt have any of his dna anymore.

I thought the first parts of the game were a bit boring (as somebody who loved MGS3) but loved it at the end of the act (3 ?) during the moto chase, then the episode in the snow like mgs1 (act 4?) and finally act5 but act5 was like 10min of gameplay
Sadly, most of the game was boring then cuz end of act3+ act4+act5 isn't such a big portion, but thought they were epic.
And yeah the story is confusing but I had understood back then that Ocelot was educated/hypnotized to act as Liquid, but I also understood (but maybe I'm wrong), that he never was controlled by Liquid (not even in MGS2), even though he had his DNA in MGS2, and that he was just pretending to.
But this I'm not sure since in MGS2, Ocelot has the voice of Liquid at some point, with the british accent.

He kept calling him brother in the end though when you were fighting him. I'm not so sure he was just pretending, if anything majorly influenced by liquids personality.
