It's not relevant on which platform it was released first, it was released on PC too. I'm not saying the game is crap or that it's dumbed down, I think it's better than ME1. I'm just pointing out that such a screen would never have made it into this game if it was only developed for the PC. Hence the term "consolitis".

Yep, if you take the wrong door in a mission, you're pretty much fucked :/. If I feel the mission end coming, I save so i can reload if it does end.

That's my number one gripe with the "dumbing down" bullshit... it's so freaking linear! The only non-linearity to the game is when you explore stations (like the Citadel) - and even THEN they're not as big as they first appear.

If we leave out the crappy planets in ME1, there wasn't much exploring there either. Sadly this series is not for people who like exploring and finding hidden stuff.

Okay, now there's something potentially, seriously fubar here. It took me about 20 minutes to struggle through the intro video (slideshow) until I finally got in-game. But the whole thing statters like hell, so I quit. I was just about to uninstall it, acknowledging that my rig is indeed way too weak to handle ME2 (although I highly doubted it, seeing how I can run almost any game fine), when I found that someone with the following configuration:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ @ 2600Mhz / nVidia 8800GT / 4GB RAM
was having the exact same issue, with CPU load at 100% constantly.

Anyone else experiencing this, even on stronger comps? Could this be yet another 8800GT fuck-up as was the case with ME1?

Maybe the game is unable to fully use the GPU due to some kind of vague driver issue? Install Rivatuner and check if the game uses the GPU. Do you have any other games installed (preferably one using the UE3 engine)? Do those run fine?

Thanks for the tip, I'll try that in about an hour when I come back home. The last UE3 game I had installed was Batman:AA demo, which ran quite fine with some minor stutters here and there, but nothing really disturbing. However, of latest games, both DA:O and MW2 ran flawlessly, maxed out @1024*768, which is fine by me. ME2, on the other hand, is unplayable even @800*600 with everything turned OFF.

Perhaps the latest nVidia drivers are to blame? I'll check that too.

Replaces the HD videos displayed during loadings, that was the problem, apparently.

I left my action key as space-bar. the ALT button has always given me problems in game. Why not choose a secondary key for action - if alt is working in all areas EXCEPT the datapad hacking, then just have one key specifically for those minigames.

That should be fine to run it as I'm using an old ass intel E2140 (predates core2duo) which normally runs at 1.6ghz but is clocked at 2.4ghz now. And it runs ME2 smoother than ME1 ran. There are other issues at work here I think.

Customise Wink

You can change pieces of armour in the same menu as customising the colour and pattern.

Thanks for the heads-up. I'll keep digging into the issue as best I can. I've also had confirmation on a different forum that someone with the same CPU as I have but with a weaker GPU has absolutely no problems running the game on Win7. Could WinXP SP3 be the culprit, then?

Also, and this is for Mister_s: a guy having the same problem as I do (but with a much better computer, same Os, though) says he's checked the stuff using RivaTuner and came up with the following:

The game intro runs smoothly (high FPS, HW acceleration activated) up until the part where those holo-consoles come into the picture (so the very beginning of the intro, even the "sun sequence" runs fine), then everything goes into a stutter: the FPS drops down to 2-3, GPU temp goes back to the idle temp level and the CPU goes to 100% with HW acceleration still on, according to RivaTuner. I'm writing this down because I'm positive the very same crap is happening on my 'puter as well. I'm still trying to figure out how to use RivaTuner; will be back with more first-hand info (hopefully) soon.

Dude, this might be the problem with XP and synchronizations of the cores on AMD, quit messing with RivaTuner and try Dual Core Optimizer. Windows 7 doesn't need this driver because this sync is implemented in OS level, so it might be why the game is running smooth on Win7 and crappy on your XP machine.

How do you equip it on your team mates though? If i remember correctly, you could equip your team mates in the original game. Did they remove this feature in this game?

They work on their own, there's no real way to directly control them except via Q and E (context sensitive; move here! attack this enemy!) or using powers (again, context sensitive) but you don't ever "have" to do it. You can just leave them to it themselves.

Yep, just as I foresaw: the exact same thing is going down here. The FPS just drops to zero when the holo-consoles kick in, and CPU load jumps to 100%.

Any insgiht on this?
