Good news, PC release for Europe is 4th March, US is 16th March. Strange marketing decision IMO.

Also, savegames will still be stored locally, confirmed by Ubi developer.

http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/5251069024/m/6491071297?r=9971096728#9971096728

HOWEVER

Quote:
It will require a permanent net connection, however it will also require very little bandwidth.

I can imagine how fucking bad that sounds (you basically rent a game) but :

a) we can just get RLD/Razor/SKIDROWSHIT release when it comes
b) most of us have have a broadband connection
c) Ubisoft is not likely to fall in the nearest years, so authentication servers will probably work anyway
d) wasn't in the same case with GTA IV? You had to login to your Social Club account...

EDIT: Ubi developer clames that the new protection is "very hard to crack":

Quote:
Speaking as one of those legitimate consumers (I genuinely love my PC gaming), I can say that as much as possible has been done here to ensure there are benefits rather than frustrations. The way the system is designed is to ensure that it's very hard for the pirates to "crack". It's a very different system to before where there was just code to strip out.

EDIT2: There are plans to remove protection further after the release date, it applies to all Ubisoft games:

Let's say, for the sake of the argument, that Ubisoft will become bankrupt and close. How am I going to play AC2 then?

For all future titles using this copy protection, there are contingency plans to release a patched version that removes the copy protection, just like Valve have said they'd do should Steam shut down. It's also possible we'd do this further in the life cycle of a title, as was done with Far Cry 2's copy protection.

You don't own the copy to it. If you installed it, you agreed to the EULA. If you agreed to the EULA then you agree that what you have spent cash on is not the software itself but a license to use said software.

None of us owns games unless we created it ourselves. What we do have are licenses to play these games.

qft

and that's only one reason why they are superior products compared to the original, some assholes should work on putting out a better product not jerk off on new protection schemes.

So now we know the real reason to the delay to the pc version... implementing some stupid and annoying copy protection to further annoy genuine buyers. Sigh, boobisoft when will you learn??

Yes, we don't have money for consoles that's why we have PCs that are

a) more expensive than a console
b) far extend anything that consoles can handle

Laughing

Anyway, March 4 couldn't come any sooner! I already preordered and keep waiting for it.

Ah crap! In future ubisoft games you will only be able to save your game to Ubisofts cloud servers...

Link: http://www.ggmania.com/?smsid=28417

EDIT: Woops, I was too late I see. Smile

Fortunately we can still make save games locally, I'll bet Crackers will come up with some kind of mechanism that fools the game into thinking that it's connected.

I guess that's the big protection ubi was talking about Laughing sure, make every part of the game online, fuck it, let the user download the WHOLE game from the servers every time he wants to play, I can't wait to see the reaction when some people can't play, or save, when their connection goes down, this shit is nothing new.

But I must say that if they want to prevent piracy once and for all, they just have to force the player to save he's gamestate on their servers everytime he wants to save the game. I'm beginning to fear that it will be like that with all games some time in the future Sad

The question is, will Joe casual gamer be allright with this kind of scheme? I'm afraid that most casual gamers will just accept it and play their console games hooked up to the Web.

Nah, fuck this. Sorry guys, I'm just going to play this on the 360. Yeah, it won't have "better resolution!" but it also doesn't have some bullshit "U MUST BE ONLINEZ!!1 LOLOLOLOL" protection scheme either. Oh yeah and the most important part? I can play it RIGHT now, not in 2 months. Ubisoft can kiss my arse, I'll just pirate the 360 version instead.

Speak of the devil... there goes the IMGBurn "burn complete!" sound. See you in Venice Laughing

Well, I for one tried playing AC1 with X360 pad(that I recently bought, I played it with kb&m when it came out) and it was so fucking horrible that I wanted to either sell my pad or just play with kb&m like I've been doing for 12 years. Laughing I seriously regret buying a X360 pad, the only game I've ever used it in where it was more comfortable than the keyboard was NFS:Shift.

Besides sabin, it's not like you will buy the game either way, so you can just download it, put the crack and use it even when you intentionally plug out the internet.

I know, I know. But still- I know that this protection really takes it up the ass for those of us who don't have a stable net connection, but I couldn't care less- I use Steam all the time, besides I really, really like AC franchise (though I already spoiled AC2 because I was so eager to play it that I watched 2 playthroughs online. Um they did with that last Prince of Persia game that had no protection and resulted in it geting pirated to hell and back, so can you really blame them?

Not that I really care about either side of the argument since I'm not really interested in the game and will most likely be spending cash on Bad Company 2. lol

Edit:

OH WAIT WHAT?

They're planning on doing something like Steam Cloud for all their future games? WTF? Why not just use Steam?

Yeah it getting pirated wasn't the result of no copy protection. Crappy DRM just screws the paying people.

60$ price.. anyone who even thinks about paying that for a PC game needs to be shot. People even know why it's 10$ more on consoles?
