Awesome open beta.
Those steps are in reference to buying and playing the full game, I believe. It would appear that, to play in the Open Beta, you just have to create an account (you'll be taken to a screen with payment options, just ignore it, the account is already created at this point.) which you use to log into the client once you've downloaded it.
(I might be wrong, this is just as it appears to me)
I don't think that's an unreasonable thing to do - so long as they're completely honest with their customers, and I've seen nothing to suggest they haven't been. It's their choice if they want to pay for an incomplete game (something most developers deceive us into doing all the time!!).
Jesus fucking christ, it just says to create a game account, quit the booze.
It is an open fucking beta.
EDIT: Help for the mentally challenged :

Download the client, install and play.
I'm not mentally challenged thank you, if you'd notice once you create an account it asks you which version you want to buy prompting that you'll get access to beta on a first come first serve basis... That doesn't apply to THIS beta, but it did apply to previous betas. In other words, they were selling betas and my argument still applies.
They didn't sell beta access it just came with pre-purchasing the game as have been the case with many other MMO:s. Either way i tried the stress test and while it of course was a stress test the game felt very unfinished. I highly doubt this game will live very long unless it's delayed by a few months.
Why is it so hard to actually finish MMORPGs ? Most of them are totally shitty and broken even after delays.
It always surprises me, I mean I understand that there is more work involved to get the networking etc up and running, but that doesn't mean graphics and animations have to look like an amateurish mod project.

they are swedish independent small company of some sorts
and mortal online had a lot of followers last year.. in any case at some point.. they said they will be releasing unfinished game cuz they dont have manpower..
I was very sceptic about MO from the day they announced the features. Without having a rock solid and blazing fast netcode a project like this will probably fail big time. And they had nothing but the UE3 licence. There is a reason why most games with such an active combat system are instanced... Or you have to aim 5 meter ahead the enemy player to land a hit, like other devs had to learn the hard way. Well, currently we have a 10 seconds lag for equip/unequip a weapons. Way to go Starvault...
A few patches ago they fixed most of the lag, and depending on location and what they were testing many people could be in the same vicinity as each other and it wasn't a problem. But I don't know how many they can have on and not have some lag. Hope it works out. That said, thousands hitting the login server at the same time is the current cause for terribad lag.

Skepticism is healthy... so is research. The net code was developed by EPIC China. And it's working out alright here lately.
People are spoiled (me too) and largely don't have the patience anymore to give MMO's as much time as UO or EvE had after launch to actually make their games fun to play. This one's at least going for something that isn't autotarget and theme park. I hope it lasts long enough for the devs to have the time to get it polished up. Gotta say it's come a long way since the beta testing started 6 months ago. Long long way.
It'll feel better once speedtree 5 can be incorporated. They put off creating foliage/grass w/ speedtree 4 (worse performance) because it'd just be wasted time, and are waiting on EPIC to get them a build w/ speedtree 5 in it (then they have to incorporate it into their own build). Til they get some greenery in it's going to seem oddly empty.
Everytime I try to run the setup it tells me that "the setup files are corrupted. Please obtain a new copy of the program."
anywhere else to grab the file except the official site? Or anybody got a clue what the problem could be?
Its simple unplayable at current state. If you have the luck to be able to enter the world everything is empty for some minutes until all the npc and players pop in, then the client crashes. I guess we have to wait until they got the major issues fixed or most of the ppl gave up already
