Bah still haven't gotten around to starting ME2 - any drastic changes to classes in terms of power? In ME1 the soldier had pretty damn good offensive as well as defensive capabilities (they still have exclusive rights to heavy armor?) whereas most of the biotics were just 'cute' and not all that useful.

Well biotics etc have been beefed up a bit with lower cooldowns etc. I played soldier, though so I can only judge from the ingame vids I have seen. Soldier is still pretty good offensively and pretty hard to kill.
Any of the more specialized classes are recommended for the last difficulty. I found the Sentinel to be the easiest to play with; tech armor is really useful and the knock-back when it is destroyed assures you are out of harms way, then his biotic and tech powers make sure you can take the shields of any enemy and kill him, without worrying too much for ammunition. Don't worry about assault rifles or snipers, you will have a chance to get them pretty early on anyway.

Yeah...it killed me when I found out about that. But it was a bit too late to restart with another class. I went with the Infiltrator class in the first one for the Sniper and Tech powers (shields overload and hacking).
In the second the hacking ability is pretty much useless since anyone can use it... still the AI hacking is pretty nice. Would probably have gone with the Sentinel if I knew about that special mission but you can get the widowmaker which is a beast in terms of damage per shot. I usually prefer the "mage" style classes myself so it would have been a good feat.
In the end I guess it evens out. So whatever you choose it doesn't matter as long as your having fun. Turning a mech against allies is as hard as it is gratifying.

The main thing: Vanguard is terrible now, while Infiltrator is pretty awesome.
Biotics still aren't too useful, as most of them won't damage shields/barriers/armor much at all.
Edit: Oh, and there's no such thing as "Heavy Armor" in this game.

Yeah, I took the Vanguard because I liked the human ball in the trailer.
And funnily enough, I find it easier with Sentinel on hardest than Vanguard on lower difficulty lol.

What Sentinel special mission ?!
There is a mission that gives you a weapon training of your choice early on.
He used a console command I think or found that on some .ini files
Right. Command="ToggleFlyCam" and flew in Shepard's head...can't even move in that state. We all know there won't be any first person action, looks good though.
It doesn't look that bad in first person..except for the low detail...fucking console ports. Who knows, maybe Bioware will add a first person camera in ME3? It would only be natural after turning more toward shooters in ME2. ...hm, but that would be a Bioshock ripoff with tech instead of plasmids.
just grabbed and installed the dlc... first thing was a look at the new armor... wtf its not even armor you can pick'n'mix like normal or alter the colour/pattern of. just static suits! i didnt pay for this and i still feel ripped off
did everyone want static suits instead of armor 'sets' they could use like normal or did the dev just not understand what gamers want? arrrrrrr i wanted pick n mix, or atleast to be able to get rid of those dorky ass helmets on the suits
i hope the stuff aside from the armor holds up a bit better :/
The "black hole" gun and other DLC weapons are pretty useful, actual armor sets can look cool and all but the bonuses aren't that impressive once you have a few more armor pieces for the default suit.
Zaeed is more of a mercenary than a actual companion and the Normandy site is a very short mission but they're all free, paid DLC will probably be far more impressive.
(Or atleast I hope they are, then again Ostagar didn't work out all too well though Awakening is interesting even though classed as DLC from what I can see it's more of a expansion and priced accordingly.)
well i did the normandy mission and i liked it. it wasnt really a mission as such, more like a surreal revisiting type dealy, which i enjoyed.
just really frustrated about that armor. i dont really care about bonuses, i just woulda liked to have been able to use em like normal chest pieces, mix and match style.
really looking forward to some 'proper' dlcs though, especially given how 'small' the game felt in terms of places to go and things to do outside of the core story missions... game was so cool, but not as expansive as id have liked it to have been (..but really, id want 'more' regardless how big the game was, because the overall game was so much fun )
Have you gone directly from Collector ship to IFF mission and then to Omega 4 (while skipping most side-quests)? Can't see any other way of getting that disaster of the ending.

yea:D
Spoiler:
i am not the rpg gamer..have no patience for side mission, i enjoyed the main missions and the story line.
it feels to me too repetitive to do side missions.
in borderlands, i did this too..went fast forward and did hard missions when my level was too low..somehow i passed without cheat's....i guess i am not RPG gamer...don't like all the arounds...but ME2 was more fps, thats why i went with it into the end, but sticked with the main missions.

Hmm, the "black hole" gun was basically a one-use, or if you had saved enough ammo, two-use weapon.
Nah, Black Hole gun has plenty of ammo capacity, well not a lot, but enough..some 10+ or close to it. It was the nuke gun that was one shot gun...plenty of firepower though
i loved the nuke gun. it was basically the 'oh fuck this' weapon.. every time i just couldnt be assed with what i thought was going to be a battle that would go on a little too long than my attention could hold... oh fuck this KABOoooooooom
