Ok...here is the deal
I got a three yr old computer that is in need of a small upgrade..
E6850 core duo 3Ghz
8800GTS 320MB
ASUS socket 755 Mobo and 4G of RAM and other shit...
I can now see that more games needs 4 cores to run proper and my core duo fells now kind of old so does my gfx card.Beacuse I already have a 755 socket mobo I guess I stick with that socket.
So here is my suggestion:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 2.83GHz socket 755
GeForce GTX 285
=~400 Euro
So what do you guys think? GO or NO GO?

You will see a big performance boost, but your CPU is not the problem really..if you overclock it. Still hardly any games that can/want to use 4 cores, but a very nice upgrade nonetheless!
Honestly though, don't go for a GTX 285. Overpriced, and if it breaks you might not be able to get a replacement (discontinued by NVIDIA). Either wait for Fermi to come out (March/April - will cost quite a lot probably) or get a 5850/5870
5870 is (or should be, dunno what it's like over there for you) the same price as the 285, but faster. 5850 is just as fast as the 285, and faster in some games, but cheaper so take your pick

i'd go corei5+5850 instead even tho it would be a bit more expensive
mobo 80 + core i5 150 + ddr 3 80 + 5850 250 = 560+-

Lmao, it's a landmark moment, Eliz ( ) suggesting an ATI product!
That Q9550 can be overclocked quite well, and will be sufficient for any game in the foreseeable future, so if he doesn't really need the power of a i5, it should be quite enough.
5850 is of course suggested over any nVidia 2XX line simply because they have been discontinued.

q9550 isnt a bad cpu, but its quite expensive still, even more so than a i5 750.
I would leave the CPU on the mobo and see if you can sell the whole cpu mobo ram combo for a good price.
After that you will have extra funds for a new setup, be it AMD or intel ill have your wallet decide.
Or you can use all your funds now and go straight for a good videocard like the 5850, and look how urgent the cpu upgrade is from there on.
