They were looking for a quick buck, and decided Big Daddy and plasmids were the most iconic things people remember from the first game, so there you play as Big Daddy with plasmids, as if Big Daddy alone is not overpowered already. But there is a problem, splicers are weak. So we make it more action oriented. Still something missing. Yeah, OK, Big Sisters will now hunt the Big Daddies. Let's also throw totally out of place MP and have the complete package.
The original wasn't anything unique in gameplay, but at least it had good ideas behind it and atmosphere was fantastic. The art design and the story was what made it unique. Take away most of that and you are left with a silly shooter. Ken Levine was criticized for doing this and that with Irrational, but at least his art direction made BioShock a good game despite its flaws. Here he is greatly missed.

BioShock 2 isn't a groundbreaking follow-up that rewrites all the rules laid down by its predecessor. No, think of it as a sequel that fills in the gaps, adding exciting new dimensions to what's come before... You will be utterly absorbed. [Mar 2010, p.68]

My feelings exactly. And as I said, it held up enough halfway through, then it became more of apretty game to look, but not very interesting to play. IMO.

The game looks cool Im sure it will help pass the time until god of war at the very least. The fact is now games cost hundreds of millions dollars to make. So in order to make money back and continue making games it has to apeal to wider audiences. I know many people whom wont play a game if its even slighlty complicated which leads devs dumbing them down for all of the whiners which there are many. Now for me I grew up playing pc games that had the steepest of learning curves fa18 hornet, zork, Fallout, Marathon, Privateer, kings quest and so forth. Heres the way I see it the seasoned veterans like myself and othesr yearn for somthing akin to the heyday of gameing where there were independent studios willing to try new things and or cater to their hardcore audience ignoring the mainstream.
To backup my claim take mass effect 2 for example becuase of people complaing they removed the mako and most of the rpg elements its a great game but could have been even better had they not fucked with the formula.
Cant beat lucifer is there a trick to it? I can get his second form half down and then I die. Doesnt help that my character is holy and he deflects most the crosses back onto me.

whats so special about bioshock 2? i played bits of the first one and it didn't entice me to play more. should i play it?
people thought bioshock was the spiritual successor to System Shock ... but when they played it they saw the dumb down streamlines that came from consoles "you don't need your brain to have fun", some still in shock tried to pull them selfs together to find something that would classify this game as fun ""um um um i thinks the story is um um um the story keeps me playing this turd " and some where left with a bitter after taste , others became mad about only 3 activations of securom on the PC that made your bought dvd a frisbee
and now Bioshock 2 well in the way like Yathzee would call it its now ummgmumgm "rips his throat by saying this" cinematic streamlined experience , lest story more action , less pipeline mini game replaced by yeah streamlines , forced multiplayer just to have support from Sony or Microsoft , ai is now well less retarded but now this game became more retarded then ever ... more closed rooms with spawning creatures ... atlest now you can dual weld and walk under water

I have played the Ps3 German Censored version , it still was the unfinished product so we kinda didn't noted it by the glitchiness ... thats how reviews are made today , so mostly the score was unfairly high - 87% (would be 56% after this game crashed our 6 ps3 that we tested it on , constant no clipping error on the enemies and other bugging things ).We will make a another review when we get the finished product for now its on our Beta/preview pages.
Its mostly now the story of a Alpha dady and Tannenbaum with a twist in the middle and in the end , more decisions that impact on the story ark , now with added forced closed battle stages when you get adam ... its hmmm like Mass Effect 2 its still a great game but not by "IQ" standards all that was there lest say any rpg element any other thing that stopped the action for one moment to enjoy the environment has been removed ... now its more like action action get sister get adam action action etc.. it never stops yes it does feel fine but you get a biter after taste when the monotony starts kicking in
