Anyone remember where the HIND #5 was? I just noticed that I'm supposed to search for the cause of the malfunction, but forgot where the site was. I'm guessing near that power-station, since it's full of electrical anomalies, but want to make sure.

Strange thing indeed. Do you have the latest Fraps version installed?

This has 1.6.0.2. I'm not sure what differences there are since I deliberately ignored the German/Russian versions.

Holy shit, another intense gaming memory to last forever.

I was hunting artifacts in the burnt farmstead, when an emmision warning came. I ran for the nearest shelter marker, and found a cave. Ok, I thought, better than nothing. As soon as I set foot in it, a voice cried out "Go away, while you can!". Holy shit, what was that? This is not one of those ordinary caves I've been in. It turns out it was a hideout for a controller (the mutant that makes that extremely high pitched sound). I can't leave because of the emmision, and I can't go in since the mutant will melt my brains (they take a few clips to go down). Eventually I managed to slowly back out, corner to croner, luring the basterd and putting a few rounds between his eyes every now and then, taking cover from his psi-attacks, if he managed to hit me, I would be disoriented and would have to spend a second to see which way to go.

Just when I managed to take him down, the emmission started it's work and while I stormed into the cave, it started eating my health. Barely made it in there, very intense moment. Found a few medical supplies, but the experience alone was worth it. Smile

+1

the original was one of 2 games who claim to change the FPS forever at 2002 - 2004 and i am talking about stalker and half life 2, and half life 2 after long long wait and many release dates changes came to life with some changes , but still was great game and if you ask me , many new games even today use creatures inspaierd by HL2..they did something to the gaming creators and staker lost it's track and came out years later unfinished and full of bugs, but still found it's big fun club somehow against all the chances wich i am not included in.

Yeah, me neither. I tried both too and got quite a ways into them, but finished none of them. The way the story is presented with the lame conversation pull downs, with the horrible voice acting (what little there is), mission trigger bugs, and the depressing atmosphere I just can't seem to stay with them. The little I played this one it looks and sounds exactly the same as the others... only smoother. To each his own...though. If you enjoy them...good for you.

Those are some of the ingredients that turned me into a Stalker fanatic. The depressing and bleak atmosphere is world class, the voice acting (poor english spoken by russians/ukraininans), they're creating an outstanding ambiance. I suppose people that love post-apocalyptic movies and bleak stories are the ones that appreciate the bleakness and rust of Stalker. I am one of them.

Just have to say how amazing the atmosphere can be especially with the lovely weather effects. I just ran around close to the mercenary camp trying to get some cans of poison, it was in the middle of the night and I could barely see anything except for the flashes of light coming from the lightning bolts far off in the distance and at the whole time the rain was pouring down all over the place. Absolutely gorgeous.

Well, I got some mods to change the weather and for higher-resolution textures. It looks absolutely beautiful during morning with all the godrays shining through bushes and other foliage.

Yeah, they lobotomized the GFX, it looks worse than the 2nd one. AF doesn't seem to be working, grass drawing distance is too low, textures are bad, sounds are still bad and few others I don't remember now. The NPC's keep on blocking the path on boat, they tend to ignore monsters at times and the game in general feels rushed with it dropping you into the game with no tutorial per se while introducing you to the game with the intro which made me want to bash my head against the wall. I had no idea whether to focus on the voice or subtitles.
