Even if they were able to crack the game, we still wont be able to actually install it until tomorrow.
Proxys MIGHT work though.

Install can probably be "cracked" with Installshield tools.

What can I say? I'm a douchebag.
Anyway, I'm still looking forward to Bioshock 2 -- potentially paid-for reviews or not.

Slightly OT:
By the way, as someone spoke of RS and MU links, I'd like to point out Cryptload.
You may already know it or have other tools, but I just discovered it and if you don't have premium RS accounts it is great. Just select and copy the bunch of links and it will do all by itself, even decrypting the captchas with an OCR program. --> Bioshock 2 coming down at 1.8 MB/s

Installing should work but (Assuming it works like in the first game.) when trying to play afterwards the date check should kick in, once it has passed (Tomorrow.) it'll download the proper EXE, of course then you also need to provide a valid serial for activation and LIVE.
(A crack should take care of the first one, serials might work via other LIVE titles/keys.)

It can't be cracked/decrypted before Securom servers allow it to run.
Anyway, The Club keys should work fine with this, right ? Although I don't think I wanna play MP, so I'll use offline profile.

What about the GameStops that release at midnight tonight EST? If I do that will I be able to play the retail game or have to wait, Cause I would be pissed then.

No, most likely not. This will most likely be GFWL 3.0. Meaning your old GFWL keys will not work anymore.
GTA4/TheClub/RE5 etc.

They have explicitly mentioned this game uses the old 15 key system. There is no "most likely" do your research.

Oh wah, stick it up your buttpucker. You act like google searching bioshocks GFWL key system is my key priority. It's not.
Why don't you take a chill pill, maybe rub one out, and relax.
Maybe go watch some cartoons fucking, or something. Just chill the fuck out.

Bioshock was the first game with Securom online activation, wasn't it ? That's why the scene crackers fucked up badly.
I guesstimate this is gonna get cracked QUICK.

But what other games have used Securom Activation? I know Alone in the dark did and that took about 1 month to be cracked.

It's just SecuROM like has been used in many other titles, it's not always that the release date check method is implemented however the rest is the usual stuff like disc check and online verification, also uses LIVE but as discussed previously it should work with any other LIVE key for those who want to use a online profile or access the MP part of the game.
It might have protection triggers as well like scripts acting up or low damage versus enemies and so on but that's just a guess for now and I don't think it'll be a problem.
(If so there will probably be a "crackfix" quite soon after it's discovered.)
(SecuROM is pretty well cracked or reverse engineered by now, guess version 8 or whatever the next major revision of it will be might cause some problems, Tages seems to be fairly strong as well as seen in Avatar and it'll be interesting to see how Ubisofts little online protection will be handled.)
EDIT: The release date check thing mostly uses a sort of fake or placeholder EXE that'll launch the check process, if this verifies the proper file is downloaded and replaces it and can then be tinkered with so that's why there has been no early release of the game.
(Despite it being available and sold since mid last week sometime seeing the X360 version leak and pics of the boxes from the other editions.)

Quote: | As many of you are aware, yesterday Steam's pre-purchase program began and the specs for BioShock 2 were posted along with that announcement.
These specs were taken from the retail packaging of BioShock 2. And since bullet points on the back of the box don't always explain the full story, here is a little more detail about what that means.
BioShock 2 is using a standard Games for Windows Live activation system, much like other games you have played in the past. That doesn't mean you always have to be online to play or save the game - you can create an offline profile for the Single Player portion of the game (you just won't earn achievements and you can't play Multiplayer, of course.)
We are using SecuROM only as a disc check method for the retail copy of BioShock 2. That is it's only use.
I am now checking the final plans for BioShock 2's specifications for Steam - and I'll get you a more complete answer by the end of the week. I have also been compiling a feature that will help answer a host of questions about BioShock 2 on the PC, including a podcast and screenshots of the PC version, and that should be out within a few days as well.
2K Elizabeth then clarified that there is a fifteen-use activation limit tied into Games For Windows Live, but also contradicted herself, stating that she's still unsure about SecuROM not being present on Steam copies. |
Just to make things about DRM right.
