DRM has been removed in the 1.05 patch

Only the disc check has been removed. FADE is still in there.

GaX: Well, get yourself a serial key.. *shrug*

No, 1.05 is DRM free. FADE is another protection this game has.

http://www.neoseeker.com/news/12660-arma-ii-goes-drm-free-with-1-05-dlc-bug-fix-patch-/

Anyone can confirm you can play SP after installing the 1.05 patch without the original dvd?

If it has FADE, it's not DRM free. It doesn't require a disc-check now but it still has DRM (FADE - serial check) that triggers if you aren't legit.

I hate playing this game....it runs well, and looks awesome....but the gameplay is VERY complicated.

I wish there was a site that let you download pre-made missions and then lets you watch the mission unfold from ANY perspective (free-roam camera)

That would be....amazing.

There are some addons which allow you to place units in the editor and of course have them fight while you watch..

Do a search for one called Troopmon2.

FADE kicks in if it detect a blacklisted key. For legal users, Arma 2 is DRM free.

Bullshit. It's NOT DRM free. Legal users may not notice the DRM but it is still there. By your logic, ANY game is DRM free for legal users. You are equating DRM with a disc check but it's much more than that. DRM is any sort of access control to a piece of software or media to try to enforce who can and cannot use it - simple disc checks, serials, dongles, the multitudes of different protection systems out there, activation, etc.

I think I explained it perfectly well. It's you that doesn't understand this. I suggest you do some reading on what DRM actually is. Start here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_rights_management

And before you get all excited, thinking that
Quote:
The term generally doesn't refer to other forms of copy protection which can be circumvented without modifying the file or device, such as serial numbers or keyfiles.
proves me wrong... a simple serial check is not considered DRM. A *server side* serial check which would require you to modify the program IS DRM.

Anyway, I didn't like ARMA much so I haven't tried ARMAII yet. I got tired of fighting the bugs. Smile

Yeah just tried it.
Turned it off straight away.
Just too much happening to make it enjoyable if you ask me.
And, you cannot get in any vehicles you want to.
Does my head in.
Spoils the whole experience.

Just reinstalled it to show off the gfx to a friend. Runs better on the 1.05 version, pretty much maxxed. Still locks to german language for my serial, no securom, so it actually starts up pretty quick, hehe.

Fooled around at the training area, showed some disrespect to authority :
 Spoiler:

EDIT: Now I got to find the translation "mod"

The translation mod should still work and be maintained and I'd recommend the latest beta patch as a bonus they only use serial check and no other DRM like SecuROM. Smile
(They really should bring all languages together in a later update or atleast the text and make it selectable via the main menu instead, odd choice but I'm fairly certain it was explained earlier why this was done.)

The translation mod is still about...

trouble is very few servers will bother to hold the keys for it making it a farce to find server now that will allow you to join..

1.04 is indeed the latest usable, i tried 1.05 but you can't shoot straight with it (as in Fade).

I have no problems with Arm2.Most the bugs have been fixed and with ACE2 mod added it really blows any other competing title out of the water.Heck it beat everything else without mods to begin with. You also can't beat the community support the BIS series of games have had over the years.Countless islands, missions, campaigns, added features, and gear keep coming.Looking forward to the expansion.

Is that mod MP only or is it singelplayer too? It doesnt say anywhere on their wiki etc.

Any singelplayer mods you can recommend otherwise?

It works for both.In fact you can play a lot of scenarios both in SP and MP not designed for it.
