I liked SF 1, gonna give this a try again now, good tips JB |
You didn't lose much IMO. SF2 ruined everything that was so great and unique in SF1, the only improvement was the graphics which I couldn't give a damn about. Gameplay was made similar to any other "basic" RTS out there. Pity.

Spellforce games were never known for being buggy or having technical issues but whatever... it's your loss. |
I guess you weren't there for the starforce meltdown..
Meanwhile, JoWood blantantly stood by and supported StarForce, even as they (SF) put up "LOOK HOW EASY IT IS TO PIRATE GAMES" links with another really good game that didn't have copy protection. Jowood's response, "Well, it is a good example on why you want copy protection on your games.... "....... ........ ..........
Nevah, evah, evah, again, another JoW game.. Which is a shame, because I did like SF1, and SF2. But, I don't really wan't to indirectly support some things on the software market.

SF 2 is a good game, great reviews everywhere.
Played it a lot.

In what way did it get worse?
Haven't gotten that far yet.
SF1 was a very good game, they created a new concept with the mix of RTS/RPG, also had good gfx and descent lvl system. |
Just my opinion, but without the rune warriors, the game just wasn't the same. No more "collecting" rune warriors and servants who you could summon, instead you have a party and a regular army. How original...
I liked the fact that in SF1, you had your rune warriors and on many levels you could actually choose which force to build up (multiple monuments belonging to different races in maps), or to even build forces at all. And yes, you actually had to chose, because different alignment forces actually attacked each other even if you controlled them both! It was great, one time I tried to unite my elven and night elf forces to tackle one of the überbosses of the Mosaic questline. To my surprise the 2 forces actually slaughtered each other... however surprised I was, it was still quite fun to watch
The character development also took quite a beating... skills and items in SF2 were just... boring. In SF1, each rune warrior you had had special skillsets. This gave them a personality.
In SF1, you actually could go back to previous levels to do other quests in later parts of the game. Resources regenerated slowly, so it was possible to experiment and have fun. Some of the quests probably couldn't even be done without the additional resources (eg mosaic quests).
Additionally, SF2 seems to focus much more on the RTS part. The RPG part just didn't feel that fresh to me in SF2.
I probably could go on. Don't get me wrong, SF2 is not a bad game by all means, it's just that compared to SF1, I found it generic and uninteresting. I probably expected too much.

FYI this is a JoWood/Trine game and they are in money trouble currently. They filed for bankruptcy already. Dont expect anything else than a rip off, just as usual. If it ever comes out...

Trine Games? TRINE GAMES is making Faith in Destiny?
Fuck this shit, no way I'm buying or even downloading it. Those bastards made G3: Forsaken Gods.

It's being developed by TRINE and published by JOWOOD, which will probably go bankrupt soon.
You really surprised?

bankruptcy is exactly why they should release, to either avoid bankruptcy, or product should be sold to another publisher after bankrupt, since it will belong to state at that point
