well back in the days I got in touch with filesharing using Kazaa
Kazaa sucked ass then I tried Overlord
the name actually made me feel I was part of one big CP network so I switched to emule
when Torrentz became very popular I switched again

but since Torrentz are not really safe anymore I took a look at usenet yesterday
my provider has a free news server, no SSL and only 2 connections of +/- 32 KBs but it is free right
installed configured Alt.Binz and I was good to go
you see, you can teach an old dog new tricks Very Happy

but here is my thing: how do you freaking find something without parsing through pages of garbage from search engines?
compared to "unsafe" Torrentz this whole usenet concept is going back in time

There is no space for "going back in time" since Usenet is already about 40 years old. It was not indented to host binary files. I am quite sure you wont find any useful binary groups at your hosters usenet server. You usually find stuff by using NZB indexers like binsearch.info but as i said, you wont download anything using your provider.

^^ no idea. I use newshosting.com only because they don't care that I split it with my brother (aka don't seem to care about different IPs using it as long as we don't go over connection max .. it's $15 a month but ofc $7.50 that way Wink) ... been with them actually for nearly 6 years now.

You should try the Dutch Program FTD 3.8.5
When you installed that and logged in the first time make sure you also install Koalaftd or Watchdog so you get a NZB button. Now you only need to press that button to get yourself the right NZB without any hassle Wink

If you want to learn more check this site : http://www.binaries4all.nl/

Edit : BTW my usenet provider is Eweka. Costs me 7.50E each month and i can share with a friend. No maximum download and downspeed of 100mbit max i thought.

I should have posted this somewhere else me thinks
anyway thanks for the help Smile
cheapest solution for a paid plan would be the usenet provider that cooperates with my internet provider: TweakNews
€ 4,95, unlimited traffic, 10Mbs, 240+ retention
but they log stuff and prolly no SSL so there goes the safety
meh gonna stick with torrents till the legislation forbids it

Astraweb does NOT allow you to share accounts. We found out the hard way and cancelled. Newshosting does.

Astraweb doesn't allow you to share simultaneously; you can share as much as you like on as many different IPs as you like - just not at the same time. I'd actually be surprised if any providers allow multiple IP logins at once. I'll read into Newshosting.

Quote:

21. Can I log in from multiple computers at the same time?
NewsHosting accounts are limited to a single IP at a time.

So yeah, they DO NOT allow you to share the account simultaneously. As I said; I'd be very surprised if any hosting company did that. Astraweb lets you use the account on any IP address you want, just as long as it's not at the same time, I know this because my wife and I have always shared our Astraweb account and often from different IP addresses (like if I'm visiting family in England, or even in daily use at home due to us each having our own net line)

I actually got a nasty email from newshosting about multiple IPs and threatening to cancel my account a couple years back, but I sent back a polite email saying I accessed from both home, work and sometimes internet hotspots (while simultaneously using my home bandwidth to DL) and that it was all me ... and they bought it. I guess it helped that all IPs are in the same city Smile

Thankfully, eh? ^_^

Luckily for my missus and I, Astraweb are totally cool about us sharing the line. There's no point even trying to use it at the same time, as we end up with an "Error 504: This account is already active with the IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" blah blah.

thanks again all for the info
at this moment I would rather choose tunnelling all my piracy traffic through a VPN than using usenet
a site like "http://itshidden.com/" for example

I would not be surprised if we in the near future use encrypted traffic with proxies in Africa or whatever other country the law allows these kind of services, to fool our big brother governments Neutral

I've been looking for ye olde PS1 and 2 games lately... and those were hard to find. Turns out there's loads of those old gems on upload sites like Rapidshare and Megaupload. Another advantage compared to Usenet is the absence of time consuming decoding, verifying and repairing.

You're not alone in that. I remember 3-5 years ago people posted complete archives with all releases of ps1/ps2/dc/xbox games on newsgroups, sorted alphabetically. There is not as much old stuff on usenet as it used to be. Same with music.
Now with retentions growing above 600 days I kinda expected the opposite.
