It will be interesting to see if it's anygood, the lackluster demo certainly didn't leave a good impression.

Biggest POS rts I've played in a while.
was DIE hard SC:FA fan.
if I could demand a refund I would.
take SC:FA remove everything that required thought, strategy or made the game exciting ..update the graphics from 2002 to maybe 2004 (if your being kind) and that's Supcom2 in a nutshell.
I'd say on a scale of 1 to 10..id give it a 4..and that's only because its getting 2 points for it running smoother than the older version.
If anyone here wants a full review from a Supcom1 lover..let me know. I didn't want to go on a full on rant/review if no one cared..
waiting for a year for this to release..and then getting this, for me. was like waiting all year for Christmas knowing you was getting a new car.
only to find out your grandma got you a walmart RC car plus didnt buy batteries for it anyway..

I wouldn't mind a more in-depth review. I'm a long-time fan of TA and SC, but the demo of SC2 really turned me off.

I think my first run is what did it for me..rushed home installed it and during the game went "ok go help that other eng build, oh cant do that? well upgrade that extractor, cant do that either? well have this factory assist that one...well hell that is gone too"
anything you liked in SC is gone:
1.)No mass extractor upgrades
2.)No adjacency bonuses (no storage to build anyway)
3.)No eng assist other eng building. one Eng builds one thing
4.)No building anything unless you have the mass/energy stored
5.)No Tech levels..period. so one level of everything..guys, generators, shields.
6.)Speaking of shields and such...none to build, they are 'upgrades' that factories get on themselves. no turrets really..you get 2, but they are horrible and useless.
7.)research is the crappy replacement of tech levels...but its more like every other RTS.."upgrade guns" gives everyone a better gun.
8.)graphics are 2004 tops.
9.)the BIGGEST map is about the size of what a 7x7 in SC would be (5x5 is smaller but 10x10 is bigger.)
there is a few other things, but lots of little issues to list.
the best way I can describe how ti feels if it makes sense to anyone:
SupCom2 is to SC:FA what Simcity Societies was to SimCity 4

Rubbish!
If SC1 is that good and peeps want 'in-depth' gaming, new players should be flocking to play? Good on them should they choose to do so. (something tells me they won't though)
I could say the same: What your saying is that, people who don't like 'in-depth' gaming, should fuck off if they can't handle it, because you want an upgrade and that is that!?
Can't we have both?

No that makes perfect sense. The first hour of simcity societies, I kept thinking WTF and assumed it would just unlock more stuff as the game progressed. Sadly, it couldn't have been further from the truth. Bummer about supcom2 I figured the demo was stripped of loads of content. |
yea, I mean to someone new..they may get a thrill out of it for a while. but going from, well, pretty much ANY RTS, to this one..feels like going from high school to kindergarten.
the slogan of it should be "So easy...a console lover can play it!.... with one hand!"
my personal opinion is its TOO simple, boring, and generic.
pretty much make 4 P-gens, 4-5 extractors..set factories to repeat, and sit back to spam guys running in the middle of the map to meet the other guys.

why would they need to? they have 101 other RTS's that play that way..its not like SC2 is now filling a gap thats needed..its blending into the generic forgettable RTS-land that every other RTS does...and that's copy Starcraft to try to grab some of the starcraft2 hype.
don't you think that its strange its released the SAME WEEK as sc2 beta?
they aren't after making a good game, they are after now making a starcraft2 clone.

If it makes you feel any better, it does the same for me and I have the Retail DVD edition. "Supreme Commander 2 Encountered an Error.... blah". There are already several threads on the Official forums about it. Sigh... Always love getting the game on release day only to wait until a hotfix is released. Apparently earlier today the beta steam UI was causing authentication to fail until they hot-fixed it. Not sure if that is what nailed me or not as I don't want to re-download the whole thing when it passes cache validation. I was already forced to download over 2GB and I have the retail disc...

As a RTS game I find this more fun than a lot of what Ive played in the last few years. As a sequel to Supreme Commander its not what I wanted and feels like a step backwards.

Guess everyone's getting the crash when trying to play? I click skirmish, select my options, click launch and after the loading screen it crashes to the desktop. Any patches?

EDIT: Alongside that apparently large Steam update of the game.

Uses Steamworks so I don't think it uses LIVE, could be wrong though.

You could be right, I might be thinking of DoW2. However as I can't even load to the title screen I can't verify.

Hmm they should have had a advanced player option that unlocks all the SC1 features.. Not that hard to do really, no innovation these days.
Personally I always sucked at SC1 but I can see the unique features putting it into a different kettle of fish to a rts, now it is probably just a generic clone. I'll still play it and enjoy it but I will miss some of the old features like mentioned above.
Lets hope for a SC1 MOD sometime very soon!! Hip Hip Horay for Mods
