My pre order was cancelled due to my card being renewed and they had the 'old' expiry date.
I quickly rang up and tried to associate my new details with my old order but have gone to the back of the queue.....Sad
Oh well, it's my own fault for not updating my details.

Sob...

So I played for just over 5hrs last night and I thoroughly enjoyed it! So far, everything about the game just oozes class. The combat is dynamic and interesting, the audio is absolutely top notch with gorgeous music and fantastic voice overs, and as long as you ignore the graphical artefacts; the graphics themselves are beautiful. It's still painfully linear, but meh.. so was FFX right up until the end.

My only complaint, as I said; is that I DESPISE the fact that if party leader goes down, it's game over. I got my ass handed to me by the boss in the Crystal lake simply because he KEPT using "crystal shower" on Lightning, knocking her down in two hits. I finally worked out a pattern that made sure she was defended when he cast "crystal shower" - and once that was done, he dropped like a sack of shit. Five star ^_^ Gonna put some SERIOUS time into it today.

I don't think you can base that on one game. The 360 nearly always comes out ontop with graphical comparisons (see digital foundry articles rather than boyism opinions). In this case, yeah the PS3 wins, but if you look at some other games it doesn't (ghostbusters obviously springs to mind but the PS3 = PS2 in this case). I suspect it all comes down to knowing the hardware and knowing the tricks to get the most out of it. Different developers do different tricks and know hardware platforms differently. Plus game engines will run differently on a platform by platform basis

I've still yet to actually play this game yet. I haven't played a FF game since FFVII (which was the bee's knee's) on the ps1 so I'm intrigued from there really. One things for certain, regardless of platform, I will notice a graphics improvement from there Smile

Anybody with USA NTSC able to patch the wav on this and have it work? Having the same issue i did with borderlands with this one. However, I just burned Dantes Inferno with no issues. Ah well, just going to wait until NTSC release comes out.

BS. You get to Chapter 4 pretty quickly, and I am still playing - well not now as I had to go to sleep.

Yeah it's not like the PS3 is at it's limits because Bayonetta looks worse on the PS3...

So I just caved in, downloaded the first disc and tried it and fuck people are right.
Lightning's hair looks fuzzy like hell and (at least to me, maybe it's my tv) the FMVs look kinda grainy.
It took me like 6-10 battles until I realized what felt like it was missing to this point. No experience points Very Happy
Don't know if I want to go on playing or wait for the PS3 version hoping it looks better :/

Aye, everyone's hair looks the same; broken. The same broken patchy effect can be observed once you get to the crystal lake, where all the ice overhangs have the same sketchy graphics Sad As for the exp? Don't worry, you'll get it eventually Wink

So I'm going to list the stuff which annoys me so far:
- story is kinda confusing why did they have to name the two parties fal'cie and l'cie
- I'm 13h into the game and not once I could change my party so far
- too many cutscenes especially when there is one and then you run around for 5 seconds to the next one
- The level grid is capped and unlocks a bit at the end of each chapter. You only get access to the full grid after you beat the final boss, which makes grinding kinda pointless.
- I want to be able to control all my party chars Sad
- So far the game still hasn't opened up... and there is no overworld map or sth. like it. (If I don't get an airship at the end this is no FF)
- The game constantly switches chars around. (e.g. You play Snow at the beginning and then you play him X hours later)
- There are only 8 base weapons for each char and you can upgrade them to tier 2 and tier 3 however the tier 3 weapon are all the same one just which different stats, depending on which base weapon you upgraded from.
- No money at the end of the battle

So on the positive site are:
+ challenging boss battles
+ sometimes normal battles can be quite challenging too (damn you gatling gun >.<)
+ I read that there are (side)mission later on but I'm getting impatient
+ I guess the upgrade system will be cool later on
+ Retry at Game Over
+ skipable cut scenes

Overall I would say it kinda feels like FF and kinda doesn't. o.O
@hair problems well yeah I can see it but I don't really care tbh. It's not that the game rises and falls with good hair graphics Wink

Oh and my PS3 version just shipped Very Happy

After spending some time with the game I would recommend Star Ocean The Last Hope over FF13, in most ways it is better.

I finished SO4 but at the end I was really happy that it ended because I just couldn't stand it anymore. So I would say that SO4 is in no way better than FF13.
But Lost Odyssey and maybe ToV could be better. But I don't want to say sth. like this until I finished it.

btw. It would be cool if you could link the enemies together like in Blue Dragon (so that they fight each other). It also would be nice if you would get a preemptive strike if you touch them from behind.
I don't really want to use the items because I always think there might be a place I could really need them so I save them :/

Would I need to play the other 3 Star Ocean games to fully understand the story?
And I should finish Lost Odyssey one of these days but I will never ever finish Blue Dragon I think. Still gets me ragin mad when I think about Shu saying "I won't give up!" one more time Evil or Very Mad

Anybody else wishing for another Suikoden game but more in the style of Suikoden 2 because everything after that was kinda meh.

re: having to play other games in the series:

Not at all, the storyline is self-enclosed and actually the PROLOGUE to the other games.

Haven't had good experiences with play.com
Ordered stuff there 2 times and both times German customs thought it was necessary to open them up and make me pay import sales taxes :/
Why is Jersey not in the EU? damn it!

edit:
While we're at it, how good or not good was Infinite Undiscovery?

The only enemies (so far) I haven't been able to hit up from behind are the feral creatures, and the wandering robots that look like lamp-shades - their field of view is too wide. If your timing is right, you can sneak up on most other enemies before they get a drop on you. You only need to surprise ONE for it to affect the entire enemies party.
