Nevertheless, it's not much of an effect that can justify your gameplay being dramatically killed 20 frames down. In fast-paced situations (which the game consists of 90%+ of its time) you won't give a cracking shit if the water is a bit more wavy or not.
yeah yeah totaly right and i'm totaly agreed with that
i just made this video for leo , not for congratulating nvidia
Shader Model 3 is the max SM supported under DX9. SM4 and above is Vista and later only. If they made the game DX10 only, it means they have something in the shaders that is locking it out of the DX9 range. I assume, as this is a console port, it is something trivial.
The extras in this game seems to be for both DX10 and 10.1 so there's both SM 4 and SM4.1 support, that said rewriting the shaders to DX9 would only be part of the solution, would need some intepreter or what it's called (EXE modification.) to support that API or atleast I guess it would need something like that.
Along with the extras DX10 is also chosen for performance reasons along with 10.1
(AA performance should be better and some other subtle tweaks.)
That NVIDIA filter effect is some sort of soft blur it would seem (Might have been mentioned already.) and the more reactive water calculations via CUDA (Was mentioned already and shown in videos even.)

What I was on about was to find the value in seconds (1800 is 30 minutes.) decrease by ten every ten seconds (A program like Tsearch for all this.) and then find the one value and either alter it or freeze it.
As discovered this fixes the PDA but there's still a internal countdown or something as the demo will still end after 30 minutes.
Well for now JBs method for the time freze dosent stop the timer to run out it, but you can use Cheat Engine to add more ammo for curent weapons for more fun. Hope we get a solution how to frete the timer for real.
Well there's the targeted aim if you press C, of course you won't have scopes on pistols or smg's (not the crappy starter ones at least) but no doubt there's some sniper rifles and such with zoom.
Sniper rifles in action DAAAAANG this game is SUPER AWESOME!!!

I don't believe there are many hooks. Perhaps the loading of some DX10 DLLs, but that should be quite easy to fix.

There's also a 2 byte address with identical countdown, but changing/freezing that along with the 4 byte one doesn't seem to make a difference either.

try freezing internal clock, too. I guess it does not only countdown but also checks if timedemostarted+30 minutes =timerightnow etc. So do a search for the clock time minute etc. when it stated that the countdown started (or timerightnow-timedemostarted=30 minutes)

thanks leo, i started to think it is like the mini games from bigfish, when you grab demo it is only 60 min's of gameplay without the ability to play after the 60 min's ends.
anyway...i booted into my win7 and set the steam to support it, and i am downloading the game right now, will be the first directx 10 test i ever done:)
Fortunately the timer starts only after you get into the free roam mode. Gives you some time to figure out what's what.
And really people, if you are interested in this game enough to moan about it not supporting DX9 all the time, then get yourself Win7 on dual boot. In fact, do it anyway, you'll need to move from XP sooner or later, might as well start getting used to it.
Edit: Also getting an untouched version and applying the loader separately on Win7 seems to be the general recommendation.
Am i'm the only one getting major FPS fluctuations? Tried lowering to the lowest setting possible, and even then it'll sometimes drop to something like 15-30 FPS, and then skyrocket to like a 100 fps.
