nah lol I didn't even attempt that one. I'm talking about the mandatory boss that you already fought a few chapters earlier.
Spoiler: | barthondelus |
it was a close call. he cast doom on me and I was running out of time.. Summoning odin delayed my death a bit but didn't take him down... I finally killed him with the doom timer beeing at like 60 (it moves pretty fast so that's maybe 5-10 seconds).
I was about to try if that mass dispel technique works against it when I managed to stagger him and take him down a second later.
at least I got 100k CP for him and the crystarium expanded.... now things cost 10-20k..
lol, I'm fucked.

FF9 is so awesome. Just crashed the airship into the woods... the games atmosphere is still so damn good even with 10+ year old graphics

You can move on, but since this game plays like FFXII (monsters don't scale with you, so you can/will come up against enemies that FAR outrank you) - you'll have trouble with some of the later enemies. Trust me >_>

I think im going to skip the penguins Adroa, because its impossible for me to kill them. It would be all right, but they just summon this huge ass tiger and i have no chance beating them. Its mission 4. Any hints?

I like to use Ruinga for small enemies because quite often it ends up throwing them in the air, interrupting their actions. It's great for those mass battles with relatively weak enemies.
I guess you just have to get lucky with the summon, because that thing they summon is indeed a pain

Some said Final Fantasy Spirited Away was shit because it was not too FF like(say whhhhaaaat??!! then what the fuck was FF8 huh??!!) and then FF7 Cgi came that was a movie to please the retarded masses , and yes it was crap.
The same happens here , even the game creator said "its not a Jrpg anymore", and he was right. You see scores of 85-90% on reviews but when you read them they all praise the graphical aspect but not the gameplay, then why is the score so high . I say its ignorance, and the "OH its shiny" attitude , i my eyes the only good no fanboy review is this one http://reviews.teamxbox.com/xbox-360/1859/Final-Fantasy-XIII/p1/

whatever, I'm enjoying it. the combat system is great. it's true that the focus on battles is too big but I can live with that.
hehe it's really nice to be back on gran pulse now before the end... I can finally get some payback on those things that kicked my ass when I first arrived. monsters that I barely managed to defeat before now fall like flies in seconds. woooohoo

Well I am about 7 hours in and I must be honest I am just finding it dull.
the battle system is ok, and if we have to depart from the tried and tested turn based I can live with it (just) but the game itself is just dull.
Maybe Square-Enix should have spend more time focasing on gameplay and less on fancy graphics (because it looks fantastic)

Spoiler: | Libra her and you will see the hint.
Now switch to sentinel and defend against her attacks. Make sure you use steelguard when she attacks, if you charge your ATB when she attacks you'll just waste time.
You can also attack her as RAV but you'll probably run out of time if you do so |

Same, I have no doubts it gets harder, but I have just got Odin and have not died once, and all I do is hit "Auto battle" because its easier.
Sure it gets harder but at the moment I feel like I have spent a few hours just pushing up and x, its just dull.

first round of the fight is easy, but as soon as the damn thing deactivates its limiter (this time sadly not triggered by a stagger), no goddamn strategy works - can't even keep up with 2 healers and everyone buffed and my sentinel is worth shit since the damn thing seems to simply spam attacks all over my party
i may not be exactly overpowered since i skipped all the grinding, but i'm also far from weak...more or less never had a problem in chapters 11-12 |
you'll just have to heal through it. there's nothing you can do about that phase where he randomy counter-attacks all over the place for huge damage. I killed him on my third try or so (also did not grind).
while he's on the ground you'll want to just focus on buffing up and healing because he's pretty aggressive. once he's in the air he'll do less damage so that's when you need to stagger him.
do as much damage as possible and right before the stagger is over you need to switch to the most defensive paradigm you've got as he will always do his counterattack phase after that. that might be 3 healers, or 2 healers and a sentinel. you should also equip items on your main characters that increase his/her survivability through this phase, so preferrably get him as much hp as possible and maybe play as the sentinel if you go for that route.
keep in mind that eventhough the sentinel won't be able to provoke the boss to direct all the counter-attack damage, simply having a sentinel in your active group will reduce all incoming damage, no matter who it strikes, even if it's a marginal reduction. the attacks that do target the sentinel also won't do a lot of damage so the healers can focus on themselves and each other.
he'll eventually stop attacking with the retaliatory strikes and you can continue with the normal, slightly less defensive strategy.
note that when he reaches 50% or so he'll buff himself up and do even more damage, but at least he'll also get a defense debuff so you can do more damage to him as well. (you know this already I guess, but there's nothing you can do about it)
he should be down after 3 or 4 staggers if I remember correctly...
and as a side note, in case something goes horribly wrong in a retaliation phase and he kills off your other 2 party members, keep in mind that an eidolon will revive all your characters when it disappears again. it will also ensure that your character does not die as long as he's with the eidolon. (when your character dies while fighting together with the eidolon it won't be game over, the eidolon will revive your character)
